About Inside USC
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC
graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for
the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet
message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this
moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in
antagonizing the "Internet geeks."

I didn't have a problem with Harbaugh going for two, but I'm glad he didn't make it. It was USC's only victory of the day. Thanks, Jim
Only Harbaugh knows the exact reason he did it, and if his decision conformed to his own personal ideal of sportsmanship. And so what if it didn't? He's a football coach, not a saint.
I remember the 4th-and-2 play against WSU last year. Folks didn't get it then and they don't get it now. We were well within FG range so there were 3 options: take an easy 3 pts and be certain of running up the score even more, run for 2 yards and (given how the Cougars' rushing defense had been completely MIA) almost certainly get the yardage or air it out downfield and let the Cougs bust up the play. Unfortunately they weren't even able to stop that so it goes down as picking on an outmatched opponent.
So the sporting thing to do in that spot was what, then? Intentional fumble?
I still assert that the conversion was classless. Hanging onto a lead is one thing, preserving a shut out is another. But trying a risky play with no game implications other than to disrespect your opponent's ability to stop you is nasty.
Simple question: Has USC ever gone for 2 when up by 27?
And would we even be having this discussion in the Big 12?
I hate to say it, but Carroll should have told Harbaugh..."great job, Coach", and hauled-ass out of there. He played right into his hand. The dart hit the bull's-eye, TV and all. Take it like a man, and put it on your to-do list: Kick the shit out of Stanford! And, for more reasons than a stupid two-point conversion attempt.
waaaaahhhh. Screw 2, I wish he had gone for 7 (oh, wait, he did, on the next drive).
I remember Coach Carroll going for 2 in that exact situation quite recently. Does anyone remember the game? Coach's response was that we were so far ahead the best thing that they could do was keep the clock moving and get the game over with (that does sound like WSU, doesn't it?). In hindsight, I would say that our guys needed more experience defending in the red zone, so thanks Coach Harbaugh for the lesson! We'll try to return the favor next year at your house!
USC Anteater.........WRONG. Come on, you make an comment like this you need to back it up with facts.
I have no problem with them going for it and showing no class. We've always complained that the Pac 10 has been SC and the 9 dwarfs. Well now that others are stepping up it's time for Carroll to regroup and come back strong the remainder of this year and next.
