USC Hangover
Stanford loses to Cal tonight, which enhances the Trojans' chances for the Holiday Bowl and shows that every team that beat USC this season lost the following week's game. That's where the hangover term comes from. Remember, if teams tie for second place, the Holiday Bowl can choose whoever it wants.

Oregon is losing by seven at Arizona with 4 min to go. If that result stands, Arizona controls its own fate. Thus, USC stands in Arizona's way to the Rose Bowl. If USC wins, then Oregon-OSU game is for the conference title (which is also true if Oregon rallies against Arizona). If only USC could have beaten the Huskies. Sigh.
It's USC-fucla week. Beat the bRuins!!
Fight On!!
pac10 - top 2 teams play each other in the best college game of the year
sec - fla vs fla international
ala vs chatanooga
pac10 is best football in country / sec sux
for this year's pac10, if you guys go to the holliday bowl, it is still a good season
i have a new respect for all your back-to-back pac10 championships - teams really come after you when you are in first place
the pac10 is tougher now, so you can no longer afford that one throw-away game per year
(and i made a deal w/ god that if ducks won, i would stop ripping on your team)
How interesting it is that Cal's D had an answer to the Stanford offense, and were thus able to get off the field.
also
How interesting it is that Cal's O line was able to protect their QB.
also
How interesting it is that the Cal FS played up in the box most of the night, thus hindering the Stanford running game.
also
How interesting it is that the Cal DBs could handle the Stanford WRs
How interesting that USC crumpled Cal like a cheap suit, regardless of the vaunted Jahavid Best.
also
How interesting it is that the Pac 10 spent this weekend dismantling the conference leadership, while Texas was swamping impotent Kansas, Fla was manhandling the vaunted Fla.Intl and Bama was assassinating the vaunted Chattanooga ChooChoo's....So just think if the Pac 10 were a Pac12, with spit conferences, the big boys in the Pac would have probably been resting up against SD State, Northern Ariz and Sacramento St this weekend, instead of destroying each other each and every year around this time.
Congrats O111. Sweet win in the desert. But, the "PAc X is better this year" theory has been debunked. We here this frequently. Yet, there is only a chance for 1 PacX team to finish in the top 10 and it looks like only 4 teams with a good chance of finishing top 25. That is NOT BETTER! An average season for the PacX is to have 4-5 top 25 teams. I'll believe the conference is better when we have 3 top 15 teams and 2 BCS teams a la the SEC.
Go Beavers in a Civil War for the ages!
Yeah, we've been real benevolent this season, spreading joy to several teams. Who woulda thunk it? It's a dog- eat-dog season in Pac 10 this year. Hopefully, we could bring back some order to the league next season. I'm really hoping...
DFW, i jumped on the bandwagon when joey was throwing tds and the pac10 is a lot tougher right now than i ever remember seeing it
and i hate so say it, but in the next few yrs, wa/ucla/az st should get better
pac10 teams play tougher non-conf games and play each other 9 times each year, and this yr - 6 teams are good, ucla/az st could be pretty good w/ good qb play
wa st is so far adrift - they no longer count
so wa is the worst real pac10 team and they almost beat lsu
but no pac10 teams this season are top 3 material, and the top 6 probably belong in the 7-21 range
oh, and boise st played utah st this week - its kind of hard for them to drop down when they play teams like that
had to stay up & watch the replay on comcast - refs helped az on a bunch of calls, az should have won the pac10 if they didnt make mistakes late in their 3 losses
or... maybe its all an illusion because usc was lame this year?
nealtrojan,
I hate to rain on your parade, I don't think order will be restored for some time with this assistant coach cadre. Its apparent from the Cal vs Stanford game that USC was horribly out coached. Tedford just took that young gun Harbough behind the woodshed and turned him over his knee and spanked that kid coach. Basically, USC is coaching by committee. No one is responsible. I also noticed the half time adjustments the UCON coaches made vs ND. I have not seen any of the half time adjustment like Chow and Orgeron use to make. Bascally we don't have an identity, are we going to OUTSCORE or STOP SCORING. Me personally being a Pac-10 person, I prefer to have the identity that we can OUTSCORE you. This will not happen until the coaches put the right player in position to succeed.
neiltrojan - agree with your assessment of the problems the trojans are having, yet Cal nearly lost to Harbaugh - no woodshed issue there whatsoever. Bears were quite lucky at the end, as was Oregon.
Lack of coaching will lead to at least one more loss this season, maybe even two, as player confidence seems way too low for a 3-loss team, and the injuries have not helped.
It's almost comical everybody's thinking that we're doing everything wrong nowadays. It wasn't long ago everybody was thinking we were doing everything right. It's pretty funny how some jokers just jump on the bandwagon looking at the slip-up of a juggernaut and sing, "Na, na, na, na, na, na,,,~~~." It's OK because we'll be back just like we always did in the past.
in 2 weeks when usc plays az, it will be interesting to see which team still wants to play football after suffering very disappointing losses
nealtrojan, this next decade is going to be a much different pac10 than the last decade
there are so many good players coming to the pac10 from california & all over the country, that usc cant hord all the good players anymore
but i expect usc to be much better next yr, but not as good as the 2008 team
also, when you think of all the teams out there, is tcu/cinci/boise really better than all except fla/ala/tex?
oregon111: LOL!!! Next decade will be much different in Pac10 than the last? I think it's what you're hoping for, rather than an accurate forecast. What, you're thinking it's going to be your Ducks that will dominate? Well, nobody predicted SC would be that dominant when PC was first hired. But the truth is he's not the only Trojan coach who won the national championships. Winning is our tradition, and that's what sets us apart from the other Pac10 teams. Not convinced? Take a trip to the Heritage Hall, and browse all the hardwares in football section. I'm not just blowing smoke here. Our bragging rights have been EARNED. Good luck in the next few CENTURIES in catching up with us, if ever. LMAO!!!
ok neal, keep drinking the koolaid...
the cleveland browns used to be a powerhouse too back in the 50s
i dont see the ducks dominating like usc did the last 7 years, but i do see them battling most every yr for a pac10 championship
the main thing im talking about is the talent level -
the recruiting gap has shrunk and there is more talent out there
masoli is better than barkley,
james is better than mknight,
duck secondary is down to nobodies and they break up passes better than usc defenders,
eddie pleasant (#11) plays better than all your linebackers this season
the only big stud usc has that is so much better than the rest is e. griffin and he is going to go pro
usc cant just put better recruits on the field and expect an automatic W anymore
and... pete caroll is killing your chances to win -
he should have started mustain back in september,
his plays are too predictable,
his defense is precictable and teams are finding weaknesses,
taylor mays plays 1/2 way between the line of scrimage and the goal line, etc.
i dont think you guys will collapse, you will just be the new ohio state - good but not great and boring
Every team in the Pac X gets up for USC, and why shouldn't they, as we had been the top dog for the past seven years. It amazes me how SC sustained being on top for seven straight years, and once these other teams get a taste of a good win they falter.
How bogus is it that the SEC teams play these FCS teams this late in the year?!! All it does is pad their numbers. If SC played any FCS teams this late in the year, you know Wolf would constantly blog about it.
The PAC X will be a very good conference next year. I counted eight returning QBs including Moevao(sp) from OSU who started last year. Not sure about Masoli and Locker.
oregon111: LMAO!!! Speaking of KoolAid, I wonder why Phil Knight, the head of all Quacks, hasn't got into the sport drink market. It sounds like you sure would be submerged in it all the time if it was available. LOL!!!
Hey, it's trivia time:
How many national championships has Quacks football team win? The number of Heisman Trophy winners?
Oh, come on. Please don't tell us you've laid goose eggs on those answers. Even the miserable bRuins have one in each category, even though it was a gazillion years ago. LOL!!!
