About Those Sanctions
The irony of today's announcement is that these sanctions were obviously decided upon well before the basketball team's current eight-game winning streak and signs that it could be a major player in the Pac-10.
Aside from that, it's obvious that the athletic dept. is pointing a finger at Tim Floyd in a major way without actually mentioning him and this is why Floyd got out before he officially got fired.
And where does this leave football? Were these penalties imposed with the thought it might mitigate possible penalties in the flagship sport?

It WAS Floyd's fault. How do you not know that? Are you clueless? You're around more than I am and I know it.
Mr Wolf, your above noted speculation is, in a word, preposterous. On authority of the Jedi Council, I do hereby declare that sanctions against the football program and Messrs Carroll, Bush and Garrett shall be substantially more punitive than those so gingerly "self imposed" today by USC. The alternative is to face the full measure of Jedi Law, the result of which would be too disastrous to contemplate.
Thank you for your kind attention to this matter.
YoYo and his legal thief can take a flying piss!
Come on Scott, you already know the answer to your own question. It means nothing to the football program since it's not in the same position of having a booster giving out benefits.
This is the AD's fault. Floyd recruits and coaches, he doesn't investigate and do background checks. The NCAA and USC AD both cleared OJ. AD Garrett personally signed off on OJ knowing that he was funneled in by Guillory.
This is the fault of the AD's office. They were in charge of approving recruits and they knew of the history with Guillory. Lack of institutional control, albeit not severe. Fire Mike Garrett.
The timing of this seems very suspicious to me. The NCAA combined the Bush/Mayo investigations last year--for no legitimate reason, in my opinion, other than to give them more time to investigate Bush. The NCAA rule is that they have four years from the date of an infraction to investigate. Reggie Bush's last game for USC was the 2006 Rose Bowl, held on January 4, 2006, exactly four years ago.
If USC resolves the Mayo investigation, the Bush investigation dies.
Impeach Obama...he "hired" all the TSA dopes that let a bomber on an airline. Wake up DFW, dope. MG is the most successful AD SC has ever had.
I just wanted to let you know that Mike Garrett and I discussed these sanctions in the locker room and felt like they were the best idea.
Cheat on trOJies!! HA HA HA and more to come!
