What are USC's chances with Josh Shirley and Hayes Pullard? We are in need of depth at the LB position.

A: USC remains in good shape with Shirley. I think Pullard will end up at UCLA as he was recruited by Ken Norton and there's been a gap in the staff changes with Joe Barry just getting hired Tuesday.

I am surprised that PC took Bates with him, but even more amazed that he took Ken Norton. I like Kenny, but thought we kept him around mainly for recruiting, e.g. his inner city street cred. What are your own personal thoughts re this, Scott? Thanx for everything.
PS Isn't Kenny also known as a rah-rah guy, which wouldn't fly in pro ball?

A: Ken Norton's got his Super Bowl rings. That was his calling card at USC and it will be in the NFL. Pete Carroll seemed to idolize him because of pro career with his beloved 49ers. So I don't really know why he would get hired other than the reasons listed. Certainly not because he is the best possible linebackers coach. The other things are more important in Pete Carroll's eyes than anything else. What else can I say?

HI WOLFIE
The Times hired a good [I thought] sportswriter about 2 and a half years ago. He had no regular assignment, but would write long articles, circa weekly, sometimes appearing on page one, part one, instead of the sports section, on PC, Joe McKnight, DeWayne Walker, Karl Dorrell, etc. His dad played varsity basketball in Oregon, and the writer played tennis at Stanford, and got ranked as high as about #200. Anyway, he seems to have disappeared for a few months. Do you remember his name, and do you know what happened to him and where he is now?
Thanx in advance as always.
PS--Just curious as I talked to him more than a couple times, really liked him, and would have liked to have stayed in touch--he seemed to be about 45 or so. Thanx again for whatever help you might be able to provide.

A: I believe you are referring to Kurt Streeter. I heard he is writing for the news section again.

Where is the Answer Wednesday (Part 2).
You've mentioned that Seantrel Henderson was going to announce his commitment today. Every other blog said Lache Seastrunk committed Oregon. Was Seantrel Henderson is a typo and you meant Lache Seastrunk?
