Must be contract time again.

Peatstinks Author Profile Page said:

Peat knows that the NCAA hammer is coming down. That is why he will scurry away like a rat leaving a sinking ship. What about all his comments that he never intended to leave sc? You can trust him as far as you can throw him.

jaytphillips Author Profile Page said:

Wow. As much as it pains me to say, I think it happens. They wouldn't have fired Mora Jr without having something brewing, right?

Who would replace him? And, if he goes, I think this would be the perfect time to replace Mike G as AD as well.

SC Giant Author Profile Page said:

Reading this and other reports, looks like Carroll moves back to the NFL, unless the Seahawks get one of the NFL Big Names.

Assuming Carroll leaves, who's on SC's shortlist?

Marky Marc Author Profile Page said:

Reports are that he is more than interested. I just cannot believe this. You have GOT to be kidding me. The Seahawks?

I DIg Go Go Girls Author Profile Page said:

Lets hope the interest is mutual

El Capitán Author Profile Page said:

Here you go Nobhead:
Straight from ESPN news ticker according to Chris Mortensen:
1. Seattle Seahawks fire HC Jim Mora,Jr.
2. PC is interested!
3. PC is trying to persuade Jeremy Bates to go with him.
Alright you PC & Bates bashers, are you damn happy and satisfied? Assuming both leave then what? Come-on geniuses...

I just read that McKnight is going pro. Any verification of this?

calkidd32 Author Profile Page said:

that would be horrible for the program. just horrible. I wonder who we'd try to get to replace him.

Great timing...even if he (does/doesn't) go, recruiting is screwed. Saturday's HS all-star game has many of the top players declare. It has to be decided quick.

OldYellKing Author Profile Page said:

As much as Rick Neuheisel LOVES Seattle...having partied his brains out with his old entourage over New Years up there...this would be fun to pursue for Pete just to needle Ricky...An embarrassment of riches for the folks in Seattle...Sark, Holt and Pete. Could be a little crowded out on Hunts Point.

Never going to happen. Garrett goes before Pete goes.

ESPN is stating that PC is almost certain to become the next Seattle Coach.
Mr. Wolf, any idea who MG is going to interview for the position? I know this might sound crazy but what about Mora becoming the next USC coach? He seems like a younger version of PC and his background is on the defensive side of the ball and he looks like he is better suited for the college game.

JAG Author Profile Page said:

With recruiting as it is, if Carroll doesn't issue some type of denial in the very near future, I think Trojan fans can assume he's gone.

I'll be sorry if it happens. Hopefully MG will give strong consideration to someone in the college ranks who is a proven recruiter. Given where the program is now, there's no reason too take a gamble on an NFL guy. You could just as easily get another Hackett as a Carroll.

I DIg Go Go Girls Author Profile Page said:

I'll answer El Capitan

Happy as hell if both left, maybe USC could hire a head coach who actually devoted his time to coaching and not coeds, twitter, save a thug and everything else PC has done lately.

NOBS Author Profile Page said:

la cappy tan for head coach. assuming he can get out of his "contract" with mcdonald's. dbag.

DiamondD Author Profile Page said:

Chris Mortensen is doing the reporting on the ESPN story. Not saying "Mort" (a Daily Breeze alumni success) has the greatest track record in sports journalism, but he's as solidly connected to the NFL scene as they come.

No need to indict Carroll yet. BUT, he will go from the King of LA to queen of primadonnas if he decides now is the time to run away from intense scrutiny of his own talents and Wooden-like ambitions.

If he went out on top (at the very least a friggin BCS bowl), that's a different perspective. But LA's heroes are usually those who are its most loyal, and the essence of loyalty is sticking with your people through the roughest storms.

PC is rumored to be on a plane to Seattle already, and will be offered both the HC and GM jobs. Bates will be OC. Feldman (ESPN) says this is an extremely credible rumor...

FightOnTampa Author Profile Page said:

Jack Del Rio could be out in Jacksonville and he's a USC guy, Mike Leach wouldn't be likely because MG would want to bring in a clean slate,

RunTravelerRun Author Profile Page said:

Norm Chow! Mike Leach!

Mike Author Profile Page said:

Dang, and Charlie Weis just got a job. This is when it would be nice to have a journalist on this blog. Maybe, call Pete? Just a thought.

Ex-Cop Author Profile Page said:

The replacement list is and has always been the same: Jack Del Rio, Jeff Fisher, Mike Riley.

El Capitán Author Profile Page said:

Assuming PC leaves this is my wish list:
1. Jack Del Rio
2. Steve Mariucci; was an USC asst. He was also Cal HC.
3. Jim Fassel

Question?:
Is the Reggie Bush cloud getting bigger, thanks?

Ok, let's remove the useless dribble from those who have an axe to grind, or just are trojan haters above, and really sort through what is best for SC. Who votes that it is best for USC to see PC go to Seattle? (and lose one of the top 5 best and proven college coaches in America capable of recruiting an unparalleled average of 4.5 star recruits every single year; and guiding the trojans to 7 straight pac-10 championships after having only shared one the previous 13 years; and being involved in the community to such a degree that those program and efforts bring USC superb national positive attention; and who at his lowest point gets a 9 win season with wins against Ohio State at Ohio State, Cal at Cal, Notre Dame at Notre Dame, UCLA and a bowl game) Who instead votes to see PC go? (and adopt a strategy of hope for an entire new coaching staff from somewhere shows up in time to keep any of the recruits we have coming and sucessively build on the freshman talent we let play all of last year).

I would like to see Mike Leach. Imagine his offense using the top rated recruits in the country.

If the rumor is true, it must suck to be Aaron Corp right about now. A new coach would open up competition and might have given him a shot. Good Luck in Richmond Corp!

NOBS Author Profile Page said:

Wouldn't it be funny if Pete left and then took Holt to be the DC for the Seahawks? Thanks Sark.

spedjones Author Profile Page said:

Only Petestinks here is seeing the bigger story. Pete, like Floyd, is leaving before the NCAA finally steps in and destroys SC's athletic program. Forget the next coach, trOJie fans, you've got much bigger issues in front of you. Cheat On!

sureshot Author Profile Page said:

If Pete goes, I'd love to see Chris Peterson from Boise State. He knows how to coach college football. He knows how to win big games. And his teams are always entertaining.

Short of that, Jeff Fisher would be awesome (why would he leave the NFL though), Jack Del Rio (love his energy), or Butch Davis (rebuilt the dynasty in Miami the right way, although results have been a little slow in Chapel Hill)

Fight On!

The idea that Peter Perfect would leave SC seems a little hard for some of the sunshine pumpers to grasp.
Pete has had a good run in L.A., become a celebrity and gained some national notoriety, however this last season has cast a shadow over his halo. Last years childish behavior toward Mark Sanchez' departure, the foliosity of his hyperbole and unbridled affection for Matt Barkley in spite of his dismal record and now the callous way in which he derides a member of the teams transfer all lead to a better view of the mans character...narcissist. His leaving before supposed sanctions by the NCAA regarding the Bush episode may in fact be valid, however his philandering will most likely have some severe repercussions as well. Nine or ten years at one institution is a good run, not many coaches survive long than that (let's not discuss the Paternos, Bowdens et al) Pete is not even in the category as the aforementioned.
So, Yes, now would be a good time for him to take his 19 year old cool, jacked, and really jacked (ad nauseum) to Seattle.
To those who seem to think DelRio, Mariucci as candidates, they are hacks and also rans.
Look for dynamic types on offense, Peterson, Muschamp, Leach etc. the college game is/has changed, Peter Perfect has not!

smorris Author Profile Page said:

All you guys who sound happy for Pete to leave have completely lost your minds. What are the odds we can find someone who can (even close to) replicate or top his success?

I think we should all print this out, so those of you who wanted Pete out can be reminded 9 years from now about how great we had it...because the next 9 years aren't going to be as good as the last nine.

El Capitán Author Profile Page said:

NOBS=classless idiot, period.
Del Rio was once quoted as selling his soul to coach USC...

ESPN Chris Mortensen said that PC is getting a coaching staff together...

Get out before the NCAA gets you Pete!

uscmike Author Profile Page said:

I am shocked. Where did this come from? Obviously, Mort has been wrong before, but if this is true, then he is leaving at a bad time. The recruits still have time to go elsewhere.

What is Mike Riley's contract status? Would USC consider Sarkisian for continuity-sake? So for those who view this as a good thing (USC '89), who do you get to replace one of the best coaches in USC history?

torpedoman Author Profile Page said:

If it's true, my feeling is that Mike Riley would be the next in line. What I consider even more disasterous than PC leaving would be the flock of recruits that this class would probably lose. This timing could not be worse for USC regardless..unless PC vocalizes that he's definitely sticking around and it happens fast.

It sure would be fun however if Leach pop'd into the picture though..just a thought..

FIRE MIKE GARRETT!!!

Pete leaving isn't going to make the ruins any better. They suck. Period. SC would beat the ruins without a coach.

Charlie Bucket Author Profile Page said:

first floyd, now carroll and i'm sure garrett to follow...what the hell are me, yo-duh, Unemployed Southern Cal guy , etc supposed to do with our lives?? well at least yo-duh has his galaxies to police, and Southern Cal guy has a job search to keep him busy. but me? i got nothing but my job at the candy factory. this sucks.
