Reading this and other reports, looks like Carroll moves back to the NFL, unless the Seahawks get one of the NFL Big Names.

As much as Rick Neuheisel LOVES Seattle...having partied his brains out with his old entourage over New Years up there...this would be fun to pursue for Pete just to needle Ricky...An embarrassment of riches for the folks in Seattle...Sark, Holt and Pete. Could be a little crowded out on Hunts Point.

ESPN is stating that PC is almost certain to become the next Seattle Coach.
Mr. Wolf, any idea who MG is going to interview for the position? I know this might sound crazy but what about Mora becoming the next USC coach? He seems like a younger version of PC and his background is on the defensive side of the ball and he looks like he is better suited for the college game.

With recruiting as it is, if Carroll doesn't issue some type of denial in the very near future, I think Trojan fans can assume he's gone.

I'll be sorry if it happens. Hopefully MG will give strong consideration to someone in the college ranks who is a proven recruiter. Given where the program is now, there's no reason too take a gamble on an NFL guy. You could just as easily get another Hackett as a Carroll.

Happy as hell if both left, maybe USC could hire a head coach who actually devoted his time to coaching and not coeds, twitter, save a thug and everything else PC has done lately.

Chris Mortensen is doing the reporting on the ESPN story. Not saying "Mort" (a Daily Breeze alumni success) has the greatest track record in sports journalism, but he's as solidly connected to the NFL scene as they come.

No need to indict Carroll yet. BUT, he will go from the King of LA to queen of primadonnas if he decides now is the time to run away from intense scrutiny of his own talents and Wooden-like ambitions.

If he went out on top (at the very least a friggin BCS bowl), that's a different perspective. But LA's heroes are usually those who are its most loyal, and the essence of loyalty is sticking with your people through the roughest storms.

PC is rumored to be on a plane to Seattle already, and will be offered both the HC and GM jobs. Bates will be OC. Feldman (ESPN) says this is an extremely credible rumor...

Jack Del Rio could be out in Jacksonville and he's a USC guy, Mike Leach wouldn't be likely because MG would want to bring in a clean slate,

Ok, let's remove the useless dribble from those who have an axe to grind, or just are trojan haters above, and really sort through what is best for SC. Who votes that it is best for USC to see PC go to Seattle? (and lose one of the top 5 best and proven college coaches in America capable of recruiting an unparalleled average of 4.5 star recruits every single year; and guiding the trojans to 7 straight pac-10 championships after having only shared one the previous 13 years; and being involved in the community to such a degree that those program and efforts bring USC superb national positive attention; and who at his lowest point gets a 9 win season with wins against Ohio State at Ohio State, Cal at Cal, Notre Dame at Notre Dame, UCLA and a bowl game) Who instead votes to see PC go? (and adopt a strategy of hope for an entire new coaching staff from somewhere shows up in time to keep any of the recruits we have coming and sucessively build on the freshman talent we let play all of last year).

I would like to see Mike Leach. Imagine his offense using the top rated recruits in the country.

Only Petestinks here is seeing the bigger story. Pete, like Floyd, is leaving before the NCAA finally steps in and destroys SC's athletic program. Forget the next coach, trOJie fans, you've got much bigger issues in front of you. Cheat On!

If Pete goes, I'd love to see Chris Peterson from Boise State. He knows how to coach college football. He knows how to win big games. And his teams are always entertaining.

Short of that, Jeff Fisher would be awesome (why would he leave the NFL though), Jack Del Rio (love his energy), or Butch Davis (rebuilt the dynasty in Miami the right way, although results have been a little slow in Chapel Hill)

The idea that Peter Perfect would leave SC seems a little hard for some of the sunshine pumpers to grasp.
Pete has had a good run in L.A., become a celebrity and gained some national notoriety, however this last season has cast a shadow over his halo. Last years childish behavior toward Mark Sanchez' departure, the foliosity of his hyperbole and unbridled affection for Matt Barkley in spite of his dismal record and now the callous way in which he derides a member of the teams transfer all lead to a better view of the mans character...narcissist. His leaving before supposed sanctions by the NCAA regarding the Bush episode may in fact be valid, however his philandering will most likely have some severe repercussions as well. Nine or ten years at one institution is a good run, not many coaches survive long than that (let's not discuss the Paternos, Bowdens et al) Pete is not even in the category as the aforementioned.
So, Yes, now would be a good time for him to take his 19 year old cool, jacked, and really jacked (ad nauseum) to Seattle.
To those who seem to think DelRio, Mariucci as candidates, they are hacks and also rans.
Look for dynamic types on offense, Peterson, Muschamp, Leach etc. the college game is/has changed, Peter Perfect has not!

I am shocked. Where did this come from? Obviously, Mort has been wrong before, but if this is true, then he is leaving at a bad time. The recruits still have time to go elsewhere.

What is Mike Riley's contract status? Would USC consider Sarkisian for continuity-sake? So for those who view this as a good thing (USC '89), who do you get to replace one of the best coaches in USC history?

If it's true, my feeling is that Mike Riley would be the next in line. What I consider even more disasterous than PC leaving would be the flock of recruits that this class would probably lose. This timing could not be worse for USC regardless..unless PC vocalizes that he's definitely sticking around and it happens fast.

It sure would be fun however if Leach pop'd into the picture though..just a thought..
