Shoddy journalism, Wolf.

Not the end of the world for 'SC football. Bottom line is we will still have better talent on the field than Westwood High will ever have. The reason so many of the bRuins hang out here is they want dearly to be somehow associated with a football powerhouse, even if it is posting asinine drivel on an 'SC blog.

Sing it Charlie Bucket... lol

thank god... let's move on...

NOBS Author Profile Page said:

RIP Norm Chow.

Cheat Carroll Author Profile Page said:

As expected? I thought all reports had him "seriously interested"?

UB (Ultimate Bruin) Author Profile Page said:

No Sh!t Sherlock. You are only about 4 hours behind the time!

What "talks" with SUC? You just made that part up and it has caught up with you, Wolf. You are almost as big an embarrasement as Garrett, LAME and the rest of the SUC-sters!

DREAM ON! Norm stays in Westwood and you have Cheatey Petey, Part Deux, with LAME and his decrepid father.

JoeTrojan Author Profile Page said:

"Spurned?"

Or USC would not yield on certain requests ($$ or control of play-calling overrules by the head coach)???

If Chow talked to USC...and the deal wasn't done...can in not also be said that USC talked to Chow but "spurned" him?

Your anti-USC institutional bias is weak shtick.

You could JUST as easily posted that USC did not agree to Chow's demands.

or be neutral and say that the deal didn't happen after all.

But as always and boringly predictable...you make it negative.

Hmmmmmm, why does Scott Wolf never get a scoop from Tessalone or any credible source???

Oh !! I Know!!! Because he twists everything to the negative!!!

UB (Ultimate Bruin) Author Profile Page said:

All of this just proves that Wolf makes sh!t up to sound like he has highly placed sources, but when push comes to shove, he has nithing but his d!ck in his hand.

NOBS Author Profile Page said:

Bottom line: Who cares? NC won't win a NC at Fucla. Might have at SC. Just leaves him FAT and happy. We will get someone else. You think Normie would trade that broken down QB for Barkley? At least we cost the bRuins some money.

westcoaster Author Profile Page said:

all well, he hasn't done so well since he left SC any ways..who could we get now as an offensive coordinator/Quarterbacks coach? No John Morton...who's still out there? Jim Zorn, Bill Musgrave? lloks like we will get a lesser name imo

trojanwahine Author Profile Page said:

Very disappointing

NOBS Author Profile Page said:

Norm is dumber than I thought. Does he have better QBs to work with at Fucla? No. Have they beaten SC? No. Have they ever won a NC? 1/2 in 1954. He is stupid. Or asked for too much money and SC told him to shove it. One or the other. RIP Norm Chow. (or just maybe he's going to Seattle)

In the immortal words of Sean Connery - "Suck it Tribek".

Kiffin already has dug a hole when he denied phone calls to Tennessee kids during his presser. I'd say someone give him a shovel, but he's obviously got one.

Constantine Author Profile Page said:

Not helpful for SC, but not a good move for Chow either. He's just hitched his wagon to a program that's going nowhere. In a few years when UCLA has failed to be the program that everyone in Westwood hopes it's going to be, Chow will not be able to demand the money he can now. His best years will be the ones he spent at SC, under Carroll, and there won't be anywhere for him to go but down. Not bagging on Chow, that's just the way I see it.

sureshot Author Profile Page said:

"As expected?" At first you made it sound like a done deal. Then, you said it was still 60-40 that he was coming. Now, you say "as expected"?

You really take crappy "journalism" to a whole new level. I think this whole episode makes the CJ Spiller incident look like good reporting.

I still say this was screwed up by Kiffin not giving autonomy to Chow. Had he done that, I think Chow would be working in Heritage Hall right now.

This hire sucks and Mike Garrett should be fired for it.

The only good news is that we'll still be able to rout the Ruins because nobody wants to run around in their pansy baby blue uni's and go to a second rate school. Still, we could do a whole lot better than "Lance Kiffin".

Mike4SC Author Profile Page said:

Hey spedjones, how is it that "SC's got mud all over its face on this one" when the only sources that predicted Chow coming were sports writers? MG only said USC was talking to him...

MazioR Author Profile Page said:

This could turn out really bad for us. But it could also turn out pretty good, particularly if the recruiting class stays somewhat intact. (Prater/Baxter/Scroggins re-committed or indicated strong interest regardless of Chow's decision.) Although I hated kiffin as OC, he will be an improvement over Bates (I can't believe I just said that). With Monte/Oregeron, Defense can be same as it was in from 2004-2008, or maybe better. Orgeron will bring more discipline, so hopefully fewer penalties.

On the other hand, Kiffin could continue to be an ass, make a fool of himself and the program, and drive the program into the ground.

On other words, without Chow, this hire was a HUGE gamble. Should be a wild ride...

not so fast Author Profile Page said:

Sad, sad day.

Let's hope this is not because:

A: no one of substance wants to work with LK and/or
B: NC knows about the upcoming sanctions and felt his current job was better considering all of the factors.

I fear we are going to rue this day years from now...

Mike4SC Author Profile Page said:

In my estimation Chow's stock has dropped significantly since leaving USC; he is not the miracle worker that some believed him to be. I think he has an inflated opinion of his self worth. Not to mention that there may be some personality issues between CLK and him.

Good luck to him and the bRuins; it is time for us to move on.

There are lots of other young, ambitions and talented offensive coordinators out there that will no doubt jump at the opportunity to join the premier program in college football. Fight On!

Revol_Bruin Author Profile Page said:

Now, sit back, grab a beer and watch dirty Lame "Duck" Kiffin run USC's program to the ground!

I thought Scott Wolf was supposed to be on the frontlines getting this info before anyone else--not the last one to know, making a fool of himself in the process. What a hack.

sureshot Author Profile Page said:

Isn't "one" twice as many as Fucla has? I think SC has accomplished more in the past decade than Fucla has accomplished in it's history. (three times as many Heisman winners, four times as many AP Titles, probably matched the number of conference titles, etc)

It comes down to execution, plain and simple. If your guys can't execute (and they haven't in the past 2 years under Chow) Norm is useless in your "so called football program". Great basketball team, but really, no cigar when it comes to Colleg FB.

Chiete76 Author Profile Page said:

With current and incoming talent and weak schedule (including Westwood High), we will be at least 10-2 next year. Norm, your ego got in the way of this one.

FIGHT ON! Can't wait for August!

No, Chow/"they" have not beaten Southern Cal, yet, but they did beat Kiffin and Kiffin and Orgeron last September, on the road, too.

Bruingold82 Author Profile Page said:

Maybe Norm Chow realizes that the past is the past. The Pete Carroll era was the Pete Carroll era. UCLA has more potential and better coaching that USC has, period. He knows USC is never going to be the same as it was in 2004-2005. Pete Carroll knew it too and he bolted.

Well... at least theres lots of other things to do in LA besides USC football. Maybe catch a basketball game? oh... wait...

Trojan Author Profile Page said:

Voice of Reason:

Not sticking up for sureshot, however, if, the bRuins have 1/2 NC in 1954 as NOBS states, then "one" is twice as many as Fucla has.... just sayin.

FreeThinker Author Profile Page said:

Second-hand Wolf. We should all call him this in recognition of his fine cut&paste skills, lack of true contacts and inability to get scoops from any source other than Baskin Robbins.

WTF Author Profile Page said:

API had UCLA as NC in 1998. So we have 1/2+1/3=5/6 WTF??? We counting every single poll that exists? Human, writers, coaches, computers, pop warner coaches, avon lady.....
After BCS was formed in 1998, none of the polls matter except BCS. I think BCS is Bullshit and SEC is crap, too. However, unless there's a playoff, we are all stuck with BCS. BCS Title is all that matters. I think even you Trojans agree with me on this one.

As for UPI in 54, I don't consider it a true NC. It's the same eastcoast bias that still exist today. SEC bias definitely kept you guys out of BCS Title game a couple times but it's the system NCAA and conference presidents agreed on. So nothing besides BCS matters. Just like pre-1998, AP was the only releveant poll. At least to me.

"You've got to wipe that shit right off your shoes!"

For the record I misinterpreted sureshot's math since he was apparently comparing UCLA's entire history to USC's 2000-2009 decade (not immediately clear in the first sentence). My bad for not realizing his comment was a response to NOBS.

So until the NCAA strips SC of its National Championship in 2004, I'll remind you that UCLA basketball has accomplished more than USC ever will in football.

ub, nice job you're doing with that ultimate education, maybe it's time to take an English class and learn how to spell! "Decrepid" - LMFAO

Like most say, this isn't the end of the World. And Lane does like to throw down field which has been lacking for some time with this offense.

Wonder why Chow turned down the gig?
Maybe he witnessed the father slap his son upside the face while everyone was together?
Maybe Norm feels he has a better chance to take over as head coach at UCLA than at SC?
Maybe he's just a sucker for Ricks sobbings...

Southern Cal is on the record as saying w/out Chow the DREAM TEAM! is just a cocky guy standing behind his dad and the big bully coach O.

this is not sugar sweeeeet...Southern Cal is so beat up and down i am almost, nearly, feeling sorry for them. but pity does not help and i am a helper!

more balance to The Force, this brings.

only Sith Lord Garrett remains, i sense.

concerned with padewon Kiffin, the Jedi Council is not.

with Garrett gone, defeated the Dark Force will be.

only then, back to the Rishi Maze, i will go.

Boy, talk about a bunch of cry babies. Waaa, waaa. A day ago, it was hurray for Norm Chow. Now that he makes the right decision, all this talk about how dumb he is. MG is the biggest dummy for thinking he could lure Chow back with a head coach that drove him away to begin with.

Trojan Conquest Author Profile Page said:

Blessing in disguise. Chow, who Ricky didn't like, is staying at fucla and not getting Rick Leach. I would have been worried if they had Leach as the OC. Play calling got worse when Kiffin left and Sark was left alone. I will say I almost forgot how bad Sark was because Bates was twice as bad.

Norm Chow, or Not... Sanctions, or Not... the fUCLA bRuins will receive their annual beat-down at the hands of the Almighty Trojans on 12/04/10.

I just get wet thinking about it...

nealtrojan Author Profile Page said:

Norm Chow might have made some great decisions in the past, but it looks like he's losing it. He should have realized USC is the place where he could make himself shine through the fertile soil of talent. Did he do magic in Tennessee or for the bRUINS? No. Will he bring back his old magic? No. One thing is for sure, and it's that he'll never really have the spotlight he's had up until now. It looks like it's going to be a pretty steep downhill from here, Norm. Have fun with bRUINS going down with them. lol.
