The Texas BCS Championship Game media guide is 312 pages and weights 2.4 pounds even though the NCAA limit for media guides is 208 pages. Alabama's guide came in at 132 pages.

I think this is clear cut evidence of a lack of institutional control. The university should be stripped of 2 scholarships over the next three years and their BCS championship in 05 should be revoked as well.
That'll teach 'em.

I agree with SCman, but Texas could impose their own sanctions and try to avoid closer scrutiny of their basketball program.

You know what they say in Texas, "What rules?"

Soctt, we are all dying to know how much the Alabama guide weighed? Any chance you can scoop that for us? If you do attend the game tomorrow night, a concession stand shot would be great. Thanks.

Bobo, you'll have to wait until Wolfie and La Cappy Tan are finished scouring the LA Times and ESPN so they can add a topic or post. Sorry.

Does the 208-page limit pertain to post-season media guides? Or, is it just for the annual media guide? I bet that's Texas' stance.

From the NCAA Manual:
"(g) Athletics Publications. An institution may produce a recruiting brochure or media guide (but not both) and provide the publication to a prospect. The publications may have only one color printing inside the cover and may not exceed 8 ½ by 11 inches in size and 208 pages in length. An institution may not produce a separate media guide that is intended to supplement the one permissible recruiting brochure or media guide."
In my view, this language is limited to the annual media guide. The focus of the rule is to negate a recruiting advantage for big-budget schools. Here, no real recruiting advantage exists. Both teams are in the BCS Finals, which provides a much bigger (and legitimate) recruiting advantage, than a few extra glossy pages in a media guide.
But, can we still take away the 2006 Rose Bowl from Texas?

USCMike is jockeying for early position for the Scott Wolf commenter of the year award. Yoda and Chuck Buck have fallen significantly off the pace.
Alabama-Texas game is cool, but USC was playing it's first game since the sanction. As a USC alumni who lives in Seattle, I couldn't get to see the game. Any inside on the game what had happened at USC game is more important to me than how much an Alabama or Texas guide weighs!

I guess everything is bigger in Texas.
Hey Scott...how about a picture of those media guides!

I don't see the point of Texas having that big of a guide. Vince Young couldn't read it anyway.

Alot more choices that actually might be about USC.

Well, that's a final analysis, uscmike, but what ARE the possible sanctions and is this really a violation? Seems silly.
Vince Young illiteracy jokes, I'll never get tired of hearing them.
