The story that isn't being mentioned by Wolfie is that Kiffin left 9 assistants back in Tenn with a buy out of $3MM. Tenn had a hard job finding a new coach because the person was going to have to keep Kiffin's left over staff he didn't want to take with him on board. Coach could hire his own staff at Tenn, but only if Tenn pays the $3MM buyout.

Criticize this move? No way. I'm all for it actually. But then again, I'm a UCLA Bruins fan. Lane, blow all of those coaches out. Trash all of the relationships they've established with the recruiting class. I think it's brilliant!

The most positive sign I've seen from Kiffin is that he is resisting the temptation to just accept Carroll's assistants and Garrett's wet dream that he and Chow could somehow coexist. Kiffin is his own man and next year when the f-clan is sweating bullets to get bowl-eligible for a return to the bankruptcy bowl and SC is heading to the BCS national championship game, no one will remember that Kiffin left UT after one year. Chow, enjoy the BCS national championship game from your sofa. You blew it, and you know it.

I agree Mike. I have no problem with Lane finding his own people. From a continuity perspective, it would be nice if some of the staff stayed, but it's his call. He was hired to make the decisions and I am glad that he is.

The Chow thing was something that made absolutely no sense when it was reported. We all fell hook line and sinker because so many media outlets were reporting it as a done deal. So, I can't blame Wolf for that mis-reporting. It's quite possible that the JDR contract was actually the Kiffin contract going out. I'll give Wolf partial credit for that one.

Seto - He can go, defense significantly fell off under him and Monte is in town.
Franklin - Coach O took his spot unfortunately
Ruel - He may go or stay according to Wolf. The line play has been good, but fell off this year.
Morton - I think receivers have fallen off dramatically since Morton arrived
Carroll - Did he really not go with his dad? SC has actually produced several quality TEs under Carroll, guys like Davis and Byrd met their high expectations and who saw McCoy rising up like he did?
McNair - The one guy I would definitely retain. Solid recruiter and the RBs have performed well.

I thought I heard early on that Brennan had a job on Kiffin's new staff. I understood that he would not be on his Dad's staff up North due to family matters. The make up of the new staff is going to be interesting.

Bull---- Tom_Trojan, you're not going anywhere. You're reading this and you're probably dumb enough to respond. The dud named Mike however needs to have his meds checked. SC will not be seen in the championship game next year by anyone who is not hallucinating.

The only coaches worth a crap were Norton and McNair. Norton is gone of course. Soungs like McNair is sol. Ruel seemed competent but his lines were always so damn penalty happy.

Seto is the epitome of the Pete-era post 2004, when it comes to the problems with the staff. How was this guy DC? After this, does he even get a coaching gig at a Major D1 program, let alone another coordinator position?

Here's my take:

Seto - Great guy, probably should be high school head coach.
Franklin - So-so. No loss.
Ruel - Agree that the line play has been good, but fell off this year. But ok to keep.
Morton - Awful. Not very friendly either.
Carroll - Will make a great Seahawk's mascot.
McNair - Pay attention to your job and not your surroundings, if you know what I mean.

'89 I agree... Carroll liked to have "yes men" around... For everything Pete did for USC - his last few years are washes... Losing to teams who were 30+ point dogs is insane. Kiffin is going to bring the goods - I have faith in him. I listen to Al Davis' firing of Kiffin (on Youtube)... Most of the problems stemmed from Lane not wanting to play JaMarcus - and that same problem for the Raiders exists now... JaMarcus should retire already... Lets give Lane time to sort things out... I am sure with the help of Orgeron, and Monte, he'll do just fine.

Lame is his own man and will screw up in selecting his own staff of ass kissers. He sure seems to make the moves for someone who continues to fail at everything he does.He is just a holdover until the NCAA penalties are over.

Anyone who blames Kiffin for getting fired from the Raiders in clinically insane. I've been a die-hard Raiders fan since 1982 and trust me when I say, whatever the Crypt Keeper says, you're safe taking the opposite stance. He says down, go with up. He says right, turn left. So for the media to lump Kiffin's firing with the Raiders into his list of "cons" is utterly ridiculous. For proof, see the drafting of: Heyward-Bey, Darius: Russell, JaMarcus; or his signing of Walker, Javon.

Seriously, the Crypt Keeper is a menace. I don't know if "Lance" can coach, but I do know that Davis can't own.
