i know it's not exactly a forum for questions, but would anyone (including you, Scott, if you're reading this) know when they plan to make the hire? The longer they wait, the more disjointed this recruiting class gets.

Also, any hope of Coach Carroll making some phone calls letting the recruits know SC will be just fine even without him? i know it seems farfetched and almost hypocritical to have him preach that they should keep their commitments after he left....BUT i think a vote of confidence from him about the state of the program would go a long way with some recruits (at least the ones who are already committed but having 2nd thoughts, ie Baxter and Prater)

I want every Trojan fan to know this may not be and doesn't have to be the beginning of a long struggle for us Trojans. Look what Nick Saban has done in Alabama in a few years. Yes, with the right personnel, we can go right back in the national picture again in no time.

For everything Carroll achieved he is not bigger than the University. Absolutely the right hire will keep us where we are or make us better. Remember it was Mike Garrett who took a chance on an unproven PETE. Thank GOD he is going to make this decision. And if this is true and Carroll leaves as all indications are. Everything about loyalty and the relationships he has forged with both the University community and the larger LA community has been a farce. Because at his opportune time without any comment to date he is going to cut and run in the middle of the night.

Scott - maybe you should stop having made up conversations with "candidates" for the USC job and do yours

well if those reports are correct, SC hasn't even placed a call yet. Not necessarily the sense of urgency you'd hope for from the athletic dept during this period of transition.

i'd feel better about our chances with riley if he wasn't so emotionally connected to the city of Corvalis or the University. I think things will clear up by Monday but by then most of our recruits might be out the door

I like Riley, but I like Petersen a whole lot better.

i totally agree about Petersen...the dude is a proven winner who develops his talent. I don't understand why he's not number one on the list. Riley's great and outside the pac 10 he's severely underrated, but i think Petersen has the "it" talent of a guy like Meyer

I strongly belive that your program will be just fine! I agree.....I like Riley but my first choice is Chris Petersen. Wolf, it's Petersen, not Peterson.
I'm in Arizona and I read an article before the Fiesta Bowl about Dirk Koetter and did he regret leaving Boise State for ASU, where he failed. He was very honest and said he doesn't know if he would have done what Petersen has done. Koetter is an x & o guy and Petersen has taken it to the next level. Harkins helped get new facilities but Harkins also had Petersen running the offense. The comparison to Myers is right on.

Why -- someone please explain to me -- is Mike Riley the #1 choice? What has he accomplished at OSU? How many Pac10 titles? How many national championships? When he was OC at USC the Trojans had some of their worst teams in decades. I don't get it. Petersen is the guy. How plain can that be? The most successful coaches in the last decade aside from Carroll have come from second-tier conferences or division II. Florida and Ohio State have done well with those types.

Riley is #1 because MG loves him, always has.

But, PC is screwing USC big time right now. MG can't do squat until PC signs a contract to coach Seattle, what can MG do?

I also hear that recruits can't get in touch with PC, he hasn't addressed the team, if this is true, he should be let go regardless of what come about with Seattle.

Chris Peterson #1 choice. Kyle Whittingham #2. There are some interesting combinations that have been bantered about. Riley would be down near the bottom of my list. As said previous, not wure why he is considered such a hot candidate.
Garrett really needs to get working on this asap. We will need someone in place sometime next week in order to stay on top of recruiting. Due to this, we really need someone that is familiar with the NCAA recruiting rules. So, if we get an NFL guy, it is imperative that Orgeron is part of the deal.

If guys like Petersen, were to ever simply read all the whining, bitching, moaning, crying, bandwagon jumping viscious woe is me bullshit coach and AD bashing that comes from the spoiled childish so called Trojan fans on this blog, he'd just say it just aint worth it, regardless of how much fun it would be to stomp on ACLU and ND on an annual basis.

Trojan Conquest has it right. Picking Riley is like PC picking one of his buddies for a coach. And his choice is my choice.

Jack Del Rio should be considered. Kids would come, he would establish a top staff and instill Trojan pride once again. We might even get some linebackers.

I concur with a lot of USC fans that MG needs to hire someone ASAP. It would be great if he could have a deal finalized by Monday almost immediately after PC signs with Seattle and remove any doubts from recruits.
I would hire Jack Del Rio as the next head coach. My guess is that he would bring in Koetter as his OC (not a bad choice considering Barkley will be the QB), Pola who is highly regarded and great recruiter and to keep some of the current recruits I would keep Franklin, Norton and McNair on the staff.
I am not sure if the new coach will keep Seto (who I really like and was rooting for him to succeed) or Morton b/c of their coordinator positions.

If the BCS ever stripped away any BCS titles from USC, they would also have to strip away Texas' title seeing as how Vince Young is functionally illiterate and totally incapable of passing a single class at UT on his own. I wonder why more wasn't made of him "passing" classes he clearly couldn't pass on his own.

I believe there is a "purity" to Riley that USC may need right now to help appease the NCAA. I love both Riley and Petersen. But Riley is proven and is possibly the nicest guy in football. I used to think that worked against him, but he has turned that around at Oregon State. He is 100%-class and squeaky-clean, but things USC and Garrett may think they need right now.

I think I have come around to liking Petersen as much as Riley at this point. Offensive-innovation is how you win Championships in the NCAA nowadays and I agree that Petersen is the "next" guy. If USC doesn't go after him, they will very much regret it when he goes to another top program after this year.

BUT - If Chow is still a possibility at O.C. with Riley, then I will take that ticket. Chow is the goods and, at least in my opinion, is the most important target Garrett should have right now.
