Manager Update
USC coach Kevin O'Neill confirmed today that student manager Stan Holt was fired after receiving a technical foul against Oregon. Holt received the technical with USC trailing 49-47 with 4:35 left.
``He definitely is no longer with us,'' O'Neill said.

this O'Neil continue to impress. decisive, tough, yet fair. Pac-10 COY talk not dying down.
wolf, you have championed him from the start. your judgement should never again be questioned by the Southern Cal peanut gallery.
Wolf, do you know/is there any way we can find out what he said? That's pretty dumb of Holt to say anything, he is a student manager-know your roll. He was previously a student manager on the football team as well-he should know better.
I actually had class with this guy about 3 years back while he was in undergrad. He always seemed like a smart guy, while very opinionated...must've just snapped.
YES! The little ahole.
Most refs will tell you the "F" word get their attention
A Secondhand Wolf and Charlied Bucket-of-Shirt lovefest. Now isn't that sweet.
Note to SBTexan: The only way Secondhand Wolf will find out what Holt said is when he reads it in the Times or hears it on ESPN.
Team loses and coach fires manager = real class. This does not show decisiveness;it shows casting blame to cover up for teams lack of intensiveness. Now you know why Arizona let this coach? go.Those footsteps you hear are the NCAA.
Those footsteps you are are the grad asst getting his a$$ out of town. Way to go Kevin. Dbags, like bibs, always want affirmative action or a give away program. Just like at Fucla. BTW dids, Arizona let the coach do what? Dope.
Bibs??? Is that what you wear to keep drool off their chests.
"Intensiveness"??? Is this what your UCLA degree learned ya?
Kid should have never said anything to Refs, he is getting an opportunity to be involved in coaching. It is common knowledge that the bench should just ZIP_IT, but this kid sounds like Chris Penrose the biggest t-bagger of TF.
In an unprecedented move, 9th choice for head coach Kevin O'Neill fired himself for not hurling obscenities at himself for taking the SC job. When asked by reporters, he confirmed he first didn't fire himself, but changed his mind after seeing his coaching abilities on game tape. O'Neill was further heard cursing, "I was a Flockin' winning coach at Marquette! ... What the Fleep"
101, don't be so bitter. So your son got fired. Big deal. He'll still have bRuins working for him someday.
Not bitter Nobs, just pointing out the obvious. Floyd did a number on the program. O'Neill will not resuscitate it - that's why most avoided the gig - wait until the next coach (O'Neill) fails with the penalties doled out, and come in fresh.
Even though he was out of line, the student manager showed some (albeit misguided) passion out there. The rest of the team is playing lifeless. To blame him for the 10-0 is lame - the team and O'Neill did not own up for not overcoming it. "Play on," "Play through it," whatever phrase I can call on, they should have used it. But they're lifeless this year. It's a waste of a season - no bitterness there, just reality for 20009-2010.
101 if you show that kind of "passion" at work, you'd get fired. This is a good lesson for the kid. Also, we were down by 2, Ore gets two free throws and the ball. My guess is it was a 6 point lead after that. Took the air out of the team and gave the boost to Ore. So ok, we can only blame the kid for 4 points and momentum. Anyway, the kid should have kept his mouth shut.
Nobs, I'm agreeing on the mouth staying shut, or at least knowing what to say and not say. Coaches or players focusing on refs too long during a game is not good in the long run of a game. Coaches address calls after the game after they cool down, and do a rating for the refs. A lot of people do not even realize or know that. It does play a part if a ref gets enough coaches who do not want that ref doing games for them. Eventually, they'll get bad ratings and be out of the conference.
But this team needs to step up, gut out the penalty for this year and play hard every minute they're out there. To me, if O'Neill has trouble motivating the guys the rest of the season, that's on him. The players should be banding together now. If they don't, watch the boat sink quickly...

Nobs, would an asst. coach get fired for getting a T? Would a player? Would a parent of one of the players be prevented from coming to future games if they drew a T and were ejected from the building? Probably not, because all of these people would be deemed to be impt enough to not warrant banning or firing. Mr. Holt simply did not realize the tenuousness of his position as team mgr, as "Coach" O'Neill can find any one of 100 mgrs if he wants to. Holt was expendable, and O'Neill took some action where he has power. Unfortunately, he has not been able to exert the same influence on the court, or off the court. Recruiting is abysmal right now. Thanks TF for setting back the program at least 5 years.
