Here's forward Alex Stepheson on the sanctions.
``I was a little devastated but there was nothing I could do about it,'' Stepheson said. ``I really don't even know what exactly happened. Most of us weren't even here.''
The Seniors who were around before Mayo...I feel bad for. Stepheson who transfered to USC knew the drama around the program and picked USC anyhow. Sorry buddy.
Let's see the Football recruits do the same thing once they sign their LOI only to have the boom lowered on them. If they're wise they'll rethink and go elsewhere.

Well that would be a good way for UCLA to get some good players. Oh, I know another way. Win games. Or they could just keep trashing other programs. How's that working out?

Rodney you are so right, as usual. recall Bush took many times as much $$ as OJ II so i would expect the penalty to be commensurate with the crime. recruits could be walking into a bear trap...it is no surprise to find out Southern Cal kept Mr. Stephenson in the dark about all this even while he signed his LOI. talk about underhanded....
if gall has any impact on football's imminent penalty, how will Reggie posing on the cover of a car mag with his sponsored tricked out Impala impact the sanctions?
Mr. Stephenson, if you need a history of the OJ Mayo/Reggie Bush scandals, email me and i will explain it all. i can be reached at UCLAChukerBucker@aol.com

The football issues do not involve boosters, but agents. The NCAA only "lowers the boom" when boosters are involved. That's what happened in hoops. Guillory was an agent in principle, but deemed a booster because he was involved in recruiting. Football may get a slap on the wrist, but that's about it. Can't control agents and a kids family 300 miles away. The NCAA understands that too.Sorry SUCLA worms, this is as good as it gets for you.

The Charles Woodson and Reggie Bush cases are similar. Michigan was not sanctioned. As noted in the LA Times blog:
As NCAA Executive Director David Price pointed out to the authors [of a "Tarnished Heisman,"] "Charles Woodson of University of Michigan received benefits from an agent. That all became known publicly sometime after he had left the institution. We had no information that there was any institutional knowledge; therefore, we did not take any action against the institution or even bring charges."
The basketball situation was much more egregious (alleged dollar amounts notwithstanding), because USC knew that Rodney Guillory was trouble from the Jeff Trepaigner incident. He should have been persona non grata at USC thereafter. You play with fire, you will get burned. I hope USC has learned a valuable lesson.
