What is the holdup? Is UCLA running interference or is it about money and/or how his job description will be defined.

Chow is the most important "get" of the 4 guys, IMO.

I' hearing varying reports that Chow may be staying at UCLA??? I think this is big. Love Monte and O but can Chow and Lane work together? Chow will be a huge part of Barkley's development as well as offensive play-calling. Need to get Chow in there!

The deal is USC will take Kiffin if they can have O, Daddy, and Norm...Lane is a figurehead who will be told to keep his damned mouth shut! :o)

Agreed that Norm is big to all this... very big. I still think Ed O is the biggest get of all since he's the recruiting beast, but Norm will turn Barkley into a Heisman winner.

Bruins Nations is furiously denying that Chow is leaving. This is natural, nothing's been signed yet, but I think it would allay many fears if we knew Chow were returning. Hungry for news on this.

Am I missing where it says that Chow has agreed to terms with SC. Is this anything more than a conversation. Could NC be playing Kiffin?

Kiffin is still a step up, make it a few steps up from Bates. Barkley should enjoy the learning experience with Kiffin or Chow.

I've got to believe that MG (or whoever actually put this deal together) were confident they had Chow lined up before agreeing to anything with Lane Kiffin. I doubt the call on Chow was made by LK, but as a condition on LK getting the job. Chow may be pulling out OR working a better deal??? I think he will end up with USC unless LK can submarine it before he signs.

Can someone enlighten me on the reason Chow left in the first place? I thought he was upset with losing some power to Kiffin/Sark? I know Carroll's ego didn't like all the credit Chow was getting. Kind of like when Tiger fired Butch Harmon and his caddie Fluff because they were getting too much credit for Tiger's success.

Despite reports across the Internet, a deal to bring Norm Chow, currently UCLA's offensive coordinator, back to USC as offensive coordinator for new Coach Lane Kiffin is not done yet. A source close to Chow says while the two sides are talking, no deal has been reached.

Chow said recently that it “would take NFL-type money” to get him back to USC.

He was due to make $690,000 at UCLA next season, including a $250,000 bonus if he was still offensive coordinator on April 1.

insofar as Chow goes, i am on record as saying at the outset of chetey's escape you can have him. lets face it, we took chow a) because he was free (NFL paid his salary) and b) just to stick it to chetey.

there were many times this year chow's playcalling sucked and this "offensive guru" could barely manage 2 TD over the last 3 pac10 games. many were calling for Neu-Hassle to take back the playcalling, but we gave chow the courtesy of keeping his title. so whether Southern Cal takes him or not, he can go, we are certainly not gong to pay him "NFL money" that is for sure.

Well, I'll say this. When USC is paying both its players and its coaches NFL money, that sure does make it hard to compete. If you get Chow, I hope the door gives him a new crack in his ass on the way out.

I will also say this - I cannot believe MG hired Kiffin, who's TN program is under NCAA investigation after 1 year, to come back to USC, which is trying like hell to avoid sanctions. That's about as smart as enrolling OJ Mayo.

The NCAA is super corrupt, their brand will take a hit without the success of USC football....the NCAA will lose millions...come one they are an effin joke...I don't think there is enough evidence to seriously hammer SC

***EDITOR'S UPDATE*** UCLA, UCLA fan sites, and an LA Times blog are fervently reporting that no deal has been struck between USC and Norm Chow, but we hear that it was a package deal (O and Chow) originally offered to Gruden, but Gruden wanted to bring on his own coordinators. USC is prepared to pay Chow the money or else the Kiffin announcement (offer) probably would not have been made.

I think you are right, westcoaster. No matter how dirty a school is, there's nothing more corrupt than NCAA. As much as I think SC should get major penalties, you guys will get a slap on the wrist at most.

Kffin needs to be careful at SC. Bigger market and more media coverage. He probably shouldn't be as reckless as he was at UT. But then again, I think NCAA is more willing to look the other way with SC than UT. We all will know for sure after the Feb 19-21 meeting.

chow is a veteran coach and a very skillful one and should get the salary he's earned. i sure hope usc will give him enough to come back on board and turn barkley into another heisman.

I have to think that Chow will get over his bad feelings about Kiffin. What are his choices: His reputation as a QB guru is quickly dissipating at westwood hi. the ruins can't pay him. His Titans millions run out this year. So, he can stay at wastewood and dither with NewWeasel over whether to start TweedleDee or TweedleDum (neither of whom would have been offered a walk-on chance at SC) or he can come home and coach three of the most highly regarded young QBs in college football. (Yes, Scoggins is coming after all). And if he wins a NC at USC he can say, 'look, Pete couldn't do it without me, I could without him.'
