Here is my estimation of the best on SW's list in order:

1. Chris Peterson
2. Gary Patterson
3. Mike Riley
4. Harbaugh

Fisher said he wasn't interested and Del Rio's record as HC doesn't impress me. I realize that Carroll's NFL record wasn't stellar either, however, I believe his unique success can be attributed to the personnel and their synergistic recruiting ability during the early years.

The question is if none of the above are interested, who else should be considered?

What about Mike Leach? Could you imagine what his offensive schema could do with our talent? We are going to learn that Chris James is an idiot, and Leach did nothing any other coach wouldn't have done (put a prima-donna player who was being disruptive off the field during practice). Add in Chow and Coach-O, and I think we'd scare the daylights out of every team we play.

Come strong or don't come at all.

Bingo!

Where are Sark, Kiff, and Leach? My list goes like this:

(1) Pete stays.
(2) Leach
(3) Sark
(4) Kiff if he brings Monte.

Chris Petersen. Not Peterson.

I think the new coach should be USC'89 Then he'd have nothing to bitch, whine and cry about anymore!

Gruden.

U-Boat man, I think you are on to something! And his assistants could be:
Unemployed USC Scum, Spudjones, YoYo and the person in charge of High Quality H20, would be ShitBucket.

"Nick Holt"? Seriously? What a joke.
To keep the recruits you need a proven college coach. My choice would be Chris Petersen. Initially I thought of Dirk Koetter failing at ASU, but he recently said before the Fiesta Bowl that he didn't have regrets about leaving Boise State because they wouldn't have acheived as much if he stayed. He's a x&o guy and Petersen took it to the next level after he and Hawkins left.
Mike Riley is a great coach but SC is a different level than Oregon State and I'm not sure he's up to it.

*Fisher - not coming, makes $7-8m/yr, not an MG fan
*Edwards - no college exp, losing pro record, known for poor XsOs and game mgmt
*Patterson - small school, career midwest guy, just signed big extension
*Petersen - only coordinator and HC experience at Boise; too thin a resume
*Harbaugh - gruff, unpolished, douchebag, and wants to be in NFL
*Carroll - Mike Garrett drove him off, thanks Mike
*Leach - will take 1 year off, consumed with lawsuit, new coaching income could mitigate suit damages
*Sarkiffian - in 2nd year of huge deals at big programs, both off to good start, too early to leave what they started

I would love to see USC approach John Gruden. But, I currently only see Riley and Del Rio as viable candidates. Riley has the perfect blend of NFL, college, and PacX experience, great persona, genius coach. Del Rio has a winning NFL record, is a defensive genius, and is USC by blood. Riley would hit the ground running, Del Rio might be slow out of the gate. Both could be very good. Riley does make the most sense.

Wow DFW, I've NEVER heard the words defensive genius and Jack Del Rio in the same sentence until now. But who knows, he could work out.

But the only one who I think would be a homerun candidate, would be Petersen. The parallels between Chris Petersen and Urban Meyer are just too strong. (Meyer's success at Utah translating to even bigger success at Florida)

Petersen has already won two BCS games. How many Pac-10 teams not named USC can say that? (I believe zero). In fact, how many teams in the Nation have won multiple BCS games? I think that list is extremely short.

Mike Garrett, go get Chris Petersen!

Please, as a Bruin fan, do not hire Harbaugh. That dude scares me more then Petey. I guarantee if you guys hire him, you'll start winning national titles every three or four years. He's that good.

Petersen and Patterson are in the same boat - they both recently signed long-term extenstions.

"On January 1, 2010, after leading Boise State to another undefeated regular season, Petersen was rewarded with a new five-year contract extension, with other terms of the contract to be announced later."

Mike Leach is an offensive genius. Doubt he would be a choice though with our guilty till proven innocent society.

Gruden would probably make a good coach but not sure how his intensity and temper would translate with college players.

Harbaugh hopes his next stop will be in the NFL.

Preferably no washed up NFL coaches.

Peterson probably wouldnt run a pro style offense which is why a lot of recruits want to play at USC to prepare for next level.

Would like to see Leach but most likely Chow will be 1st choice by MG

Sureshot, Del Rio was a big part of the Ravens defense when they became dominant, "He is in part credited for the success of the Ravens' defense, particularly the 2000 Ravens' defense. After the 2001 season, he was named defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers. In his first season as defensive coordinator, he led them to the second best defense in the league that season." - Wikipedia
