Ready For Oregon
New defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin came out to USC last year to study defending the spread-option offense, which he did not see in the NFL. Kiffin said he's now familiar with the offense after a year in college football.
``We were going to see Oregon next year anyways (at Tennessee), so we might as well play them in the Pac-10,'' he said.

monte sr. is overrated, this guy's last few seasons at tampa was a joke, they were getting rolled all over the place and choked away a home playoff game. Ed orgeron is an overhyped used-car salesmen, if he was so good he'd still be at ole miss, and the used car salesmen didn't recruit any studs to that horrible 7-6 team, lane kiffin is a joke too, he tries to hype up eric berry for heisman and acts like he's his BFF, kiffin is a fraud, he didn't even recruit the kid to UT, all kiffin did was ride the kid's coattails, and kiffin tries to call out other coaches in the media, the stupid fool should focus more on gameplaning instead of media wars, also why did he attempt a 77-yard FG with the raiders? was he smoking todd marinovich's crackpipe?
I'm sure Oregon is happy to hear Ed learned how to defend them from PC.
Bring on the TAMPA 2. I hear there is going to be a duck hunt on OCt 30th, with corners and backers causing Donald to enter the witness protection program as Daffy. Forget Iceman, like Plaschke and Simers he hates everything USC and will never give credit for a astonishing hire. Fight on...
Also, look what happened to Oregon in the Rose Bowl...The book is out on them, just keep the defense simple and wrap up...To tell you the truth Pete Carroll was not that great of a schematic coach, he just had talent and experience on the field. With an older/aggressive defense this year we should be fine. Now, we have a defensive guru who should have us playing at a high level...and we are home and should be favored. The Slogan for this defense should be.......BRING THE RAIN.
The Kiff's held Florida's spread option to 320 yds and 23 points @ Gainesville, and Masoli is no Tebow. The hiring of the Kiff's virtually guarantees a win against the Feathered Fowls.
how'd they do against the Hokies?
IF anyone wants an unbiased look at the Lane Kiffin hire w/o any false/ppor reporting by the bias LA Times or the unreliable scott wolf look at this link from espn http://espn.go.com/blog/pac10/post/_/id/7237/video-miller-on-lane-kiffin
DFWTrojan........great point. Let's move forward.
Again I ask the question.......Why do ucla people constantly comment on a SC blog. I would never waste my time on another school's blog. I come here to get SC information, not get snipping from some ucla person who hates SC.
SPEDJONES officially discredited himself as a college football fan...virginia tech does not run a spread offense, they just have a quarterback who can get out of the pocket and run, so your post makes no sense. And we have to hand it to Tennessee...they played in a very good second tier bowl (Peach Bowl) and if they had won would have had an 8-5 record which would have only been 1 less loss as USC, while playing in a conference with Alabama and Florida. 1/3 of their losses came against teams who played in and WON their BCS bowl games (including a NC). So get some facts before you embarrass yourself again.
DWF: Shirley you jest...over on Gold's blog, there is rampant Southern Cal posting, but curiously, it is all anonymous comments. and they are usually thoughtless insults with no thought behind them.
we don't get the charming, witty and well-reasoned comments you get from the UCLA crowd over here, so shove it you miserable douchebag.
oops, i meant TC not DWF (blushing)
See Cbucket, everyone makes mistakes.
Corretion Known
instant karma is a bitch.
Charlie Bucket - Are you dyslexic? (DWF...2x). By the way, "miserable douchebag" = "thoughtless insults with no thought behind them" Hypocrite.
USC is 10-1 vs. fULCA since 1999. Scoreboard.
The book to stop Oregon's spread option is out?
Only if you bring in Ohio State's defensive line. The key to stopping the spread option is the defensive line, because the offense takes advantage when you cheat to any one area of the field. Pack the middle, they run a sweep with the quarterback or run the fly sweep, cheat to the outside, they run the dive, run press defense, they run a flag pattern deep. Ohio State was effective because it was able to dominate Oregon's line with its defensive tackles, allowing the linebackers to key on Masoli, who as a passer is not defined at Tebow, but he's more athletic and just as big a bowling ball.
But the key is playing them straight up and getting a push from the tackles inside, so unless a team has the type of personnel up front that Ohio State had, it's a lost cause. Because if you cheat anyhwere on the field, the offense is designed to take advantage of.
