I am on-baord for Del Rio as long as we get Chow and another top coordinator too, but I cannot figure out why NONE of the top mid-major coaches are on that list? Are Petersen et al really not being considered? If that is true, then I think Garrett needs to go. I cannot understand why a call would not be made to TCU, Utah, and Boise State, at the very least.

I would have faith in Del Rio because he'd be bringing back Pola and bring Koetter along. I also think he's a players coach with NFL experience that top recruits would like to play for. If he can bring in Orgeron that would just be icing on the cake. As much as I hate to see Carroll go, if that's what it takes it to get rid of Bates then so be it!

Also, Sark is now saying he has not been contaced at all by USC, which in itself is interesting. If Sark would come back I would love to him with or without Nick Holt.

These guy's are NOT what SC need's to continue Carroll's legacy.
The administration needs to understand that this hire is not about just matching the slothful parity that exists in the PAC10, but to continue the PAC9+1 Which Carroll created.
Sark is a fraud. He made his rep by stealing Chow's playbook and adding nothing to it for 2 years and then running when people started to realize it.
He is not a Pac-10-level offensive coordinator, let alone a Pac-10-level head coach. He is not even good enough to be a head coach at UW, let alone USC.
If he has not been contacted by USC, then that is a feather in Garrett's cap. I thought his list was made up of guys who are all-hype and no substance, like Sark and Edwards. If Sark is not on his list, then good for him.

Why not Mike Leach of Texas Tech fame???
Schools that have met or surpassed expectations (for more than a couple of seasons) might be good places to go for a coach (Utah, BYU, TCU, Boise).
Then again, maybe Garrett can again ask Mike Riley??? just like he did before he hired Pete... Heck, maybe he'll go back for John Robinson 3??
PS: when Seattle goes 8-8 next year, will mr competition bail out??
PPS: AS SC's coach, Pete succeeded (with Chow's help) because he was a bad pro coach. Shouldn't Garrett be looking for somebody with the same sort of characteristics.... Edwards and Del Rio are the prototypes of the dour coach...

I could get on baord with Leach. I love wild thinkers who exist outside the box. But I think he may have too much baggage, whether any of it is true or not.
I like him, and most of his fans do too, but if you were an A.D., would you hire a guy who so clearly has disdain for his bosses and has no respect for authority? I love that type of personality, but if you were potentially going to be his boss, why would you hire him? He's like Bobby Knight - unquestionably a great coach, but impossible to 'handle'. It takes an A.D. with MUCH more clout than Garrett to keep a guy like that in check, IMO.

jkStewart,
Leach is a extremely creative offensive coach and no doubt could win with PAC10 talent, however the man's personality does not fit the SC national TV mold. His
dour matter of fact interviews would turn even the staunchest SC fan off, This program needs the image of
enthusiasm and energy, that which Pete had.
Now for instance, the innocent naivete and enthusiasm of a Chris Petersen or the X&O knowledge plus energy of a Mike Patterson would be a good sell in this market.
Either would win lot's of games.
These are certainly things the Admin. and Alums need to seriously consider, plus how well will their hire fit into the family rooms of the recruits.
Fight On!

Will not be any current college coach who would have too much to lose, awaiting the NCAA's hammer, be it a slap on the wrist or the death penalty.
Edwards, Del Rio if fired, etc. might be interesting.
The school really needs to fire Garrett and the compliance people, as they were the ones ultimately responsible for the NCAA problems.
don't blame Pete for getting out - these NCAA problems should be out of the realm of any coach, as it is his/their job to coach. Let the others worry about compliance.
No compliance issues in the no fun league - just intense pressure to win!!!

After the NCAA hammer falls there is no way SC could bring in free-wheeling Leach who has his own issues going on right now with the dismissal and lawsuit pending. They will need someone without any current scandal who doesn't have any track record of shady stuff with the NCAA. Peterson or Del Rio could fit the bill. Dungy doesn't strike me as a college coach. Seems too corporate/analytical and not as much fire and pep that college coaches thrive on. IMO
None of these interest me.
PETERSEN! This will be the best choice.

Whoever is Alabama's defense coordinator should be on the short list. And would it be crazy to think that Kiffin might leave Vols after one year? He may be a bit of a loose cannon, but he can sure recruit and he knows LA. I think there's more method than madness in his often-outrageous statements. When you're the little kid on the block and you want the big boys to notice you, you make crazy statements. Wouldn't Kiffin vs. Harbaugh be fun? And Kiffin vs. Chow? YIKES, we would have a riot next year.

4. Edwards - I love the idea of Herm, but with the right coordinators around him. I was a critic of the last NFL mediocre reject we got (Peter Carroll), I'd like to see what Herm could do.
5. Petersen - I think he's great, but I NEVER want to see us run the spread offense.
6. Leach - Run and Shoot me. Hate his offense. Hate his attitude. How can someone even suggest a coach who's embroiled in a controversy over abusing a player while we're trying to get recruits.
7. Sark and Kiffin - Chow clones who never got it right in my mind.
8. LOVE the idea of Dewayne Walker, Chow and Orgeron as a trifecta.
9. BUT 9 years ago I said this and hopefully someone high up sees this - I want one of Buddy's Boys - Rex or Rob. Rex aint available I'm sure, but look up Rob's Record as Oklahoma St Defensive Coordinator. He's in his 40's, has a Super Bowl Ring and crazy silver hair that reeks of a coach perfect for Hollywood. How hard can it be to get a guy to move from Cleveland?
