Is this where Carroll, Chow, and Orgeron all jump out from behind a curtain and say "Gotcha!"

I guess Ben Malcolmson has to get ready for the New Coach.

Peterson, the Boise St. Coach, should be the top target. IMHO.

Wow has Jack Del Rio already been named the new coach. Great get , whoever did it.

T4 Author Profile Page said:

Lane,
get back to Tennessee, you're having hallucinations.

mbatrojan Author Profile Page said:

Petersen is the no brainer choice, if we are interested choosing the most qualified coach with the most upside. We should not limit the process to those with prior connections to USC. USC deserves the best coach available, and that is Petersen.

TrojanRick Author Profile Page said:

Irony should have it that while this final meeting with the team is going on, Yahoo Sports just announced that the NCAA will be holding hearings into all the allegations against USC with a rendering of a verdict 6-8 weeks thereafter.

mbatrojan Author Profile Page said:

@TrojanRick, better to finally get it settled than to continue to have it hang over the program.

Petersen is where SC should be investing all of its time and energy.

Chris Petersen is Urban Meyer 2.0

Peterson wants to come to SC because...... ?

nealtrojan Author Profile Page said:

This is a deja vu all over again, circa 2010. I remember those boneheads babbling things like, "No high- profile coach in the right mind will come to SC to coach.", or "SC job is no longer one of the premier opportunities in college football anymore". Yes, that was when Paul Hackett stormed out of the office and before Pete Carroll came in to do what he did ever since. Like it's been said many a time before by countless number of people, SC is MUCH larger than an individual or a coach. Yeah, we'll rise again like the phoenix, just like we always did in our brilliant history. FIGHT ON!!!

T4 Author Profile Page said:

sureshot,

you and I agree on the fact that Petersen is the most capable and viable candidate with an upside of being the next Urban Meyer. Let's hope the admin does not get bogged down with a prior USC tie in as a condition.

After all, Pete was not a Trojan, they (the Admin) need to approach this hire with clear and open objectivity
as to who will be the BEST COACH. Not on who is a friend of a friend. BCS Championships and Lot's of Money ride on their decision.

Just off the top of my head...I can think of about a million reasons!

Who doesn't want Petersen coming to USC...immediately two come to mind, BOTH OREGON COACHES!

We will now be know as University of Sanctions Coming. Thanks Petey for leaving a sinking ship, an athletic deparment in flames, and a whole nation of ticked off spoiled brats...I mean fans. Somebody please pull Paul Hackett out of the closet & brush him off. Welcome back Coach Hackett.

USC Alum '02

DallasTrojan Author Profile Page said:

Yup, Petersen should be a logical top candidate. He is from UC Davis with coaching experience at Oregon. I don't think he's tied down to Boise State (he's not a homer) and he is fairly young. I'm not sure why he would NOT be interested in one of the most prominent college jobs.

nealtrojan Author Profile Page said:

Unemployed misery: I'm not at all surprised you're unemployed with your terrible intelligence level. And I don't think you went to USC, because I don't know of any SC alum that's as stupid as you. I'm pretty certain, though, a lowly school such as fUCLA might have produced the likes of you. LMAO!!!

OMG! Xavier Grimble chetey petey's top recruit is reconsidering and just wrote a veritable love letter to UCLA (pssst, his dad is a big Neu-Hassle fan, tee-hee)

2yrs in a row Neu-Hassle stealing the #1 TE out from under chetey's nose. double OMG!!

oh and MaGuire is a big drug doping cheater. so much for the last vestige of Southern Cal decency, the hallowed baseball program, now disgraced. oh, mercy nurse!!

TommyT1973 Author Profile Page said:

Petersen staying at Boise makes a ton more sense than coming to a rudderless ship at USC.

The new coach will be a flier with unproven experience (at least in college level).

Why would any top coach come to SC with too many variable unknowns that will NOT even be resolved before LOI day.

Kiss this recruiting class goodbye.

In my opinion, we will lose at least 15 scholarships per year, lose bowl eligibility and national TV exposure.

Other schools have been given those sanctions with lesser transgressions than what we are now dealing with.

Petey's press conference was pretty stirring. His unbridled enthusiasm and eternal optimism are so overwhelming that it makes you miss him already. I was getting more and more discouraged with his fleeing of USC, but he is winning me back. He also earns his "Big Balls" nickname by holding a press conference in Heritage Hall as he is about to leave us high and dry. Nobody who dumps his current job at the most inopportune time ever faces the music before they go. He gets HUGE points from me for even attempting this. He went into a room of frustrated and borderline-angry reporters, staff, and players and is keeping it positive and upbeat. Its a real reminder of how he did what he did here in the first place. Nobody has this 'act', but I'm not saying its an act at all. He is a one-of-a-kind.

T4,DallasTrojan -

But things are different. Petersen has created an almost mystical legacy where he is. BSU has almost single-handedly turned a flawed system on it's head - a distinction I personally think he relishes. He's been courted before - what makes you think he wants to leave what he's built to sail into a sea of uncertainty and high expectation?

sure all you cyber-bullies can beat up on me all you want, i can't stop you :(

but the truth will set me free! looks like this story from today is the REAL EXPLAINATION behind chetey's escape

"A source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com's Andy Katz that USC's notice of infractions included both football and men's basketball, which may make the timing of Pete Carroll's departure to the Seattle Seahawks a bit more interesting based on what will come out of the report. The NCAA had folded the two investigations into one so it can review the entire athletic department's culpability in any possible infractions... USC received the notice more than three months ago since a hearing date has been set by the NCAA. The committee on infractions will meet Feb. 19-21 in Tempe, Ariz., and according to a source, USC will be the focus of that meeting with the committee."

OH, MERCY NURSE!!!

Petros is saying Chow is the guy for the head coach job. After Riley said no, he claims Chow is the best choice left. He says that there are people in every office in Heritage Hall that love Norm and he would step right in seamlessly. He is a safe choice and knows how to do the job on day one. He says that he will have no problem getting Orgeron and Holt and others back who were here when the run started.

First thought is that this might be Carroll's worst nightmare. If we have the same staff and the only difference is that he is not here and we stay in the top-10 every year, then it shows that Pete was actually not integral.

Second thought is that there is no way I think Chow can be the guy at the podium and the 'face' of the program. However, it seems possible that it might be the only way to get him for sure. Going sideways - even if it isn't really - from UCLA OC to USC OC is not logical really. Petros does say that there are zero hard feelings between who will be left at USC and Chow. Garrett and everyone else at USC loves Chow and he likes everyone here too.

Say what you will about Petros, but, all things considered, I think he is the real, true, Trojan that there is right now. I think nobody has their finger on the pulse more while at the same time being totally impartial. He was the only guy (other than us) who was saying that we were not that good a team 2+ years ago and that the slippery slope and I think he is smart and critical and I don't think anyone is a better or more fair reporter on USC today. I think I would take what he says more than any 'real' reporter at the LA Times or ESPN or wherever. Petros is in the locker room, knows the players, and they talk to him. He is a true insider without being a homer. Plus, I think he is sharp as nails and funny as hell.

Next year, the football team will once again be dominating on the gridiron. The mens' basketball team will be picked to finish towards the top of the conference and will be tourney bound. And Kreuter will be coaching his last season.

Next year will be another exciting year for Trojan sports fans, with the following year even better. Change is good. Meanwhile, those knuckleheads across town will still be stuck with Guerrero.

Is there any chance that Ceaser might take Wolf with him to Seattle? Jon Gold could defect to USC...he actually has some inside sources!

Holmey's comments on Petros are on point. Completely agree with the fact that Petros genuinely understands what it means to be a Trojan alumni/student and athlete. Once gain for all the haters, the concept is simple, while you attend USC for four years -you are a Trojan for life. The haters that have jumped off the university/team bandwagon were never Trojans from the start. All teams, high school, college and pro recognize that cycles are all part of the process. The key is in the down years to hopefully stay competitive. In USC's case, there is more than enough talent on the roster to prevent a collapse circa Hackett. Again, let's not forget Carroll was #4 and proved that his talents were perfect for the college game. Haters came out in protest when P.C. was hired as well. The Trojans elevated the play of every team in the Pac 10. Be thankful. Can P.C. re-create in Seattle? The dynamics are so different and his ability to motivate professionals vs. collegiate athletes will be challenged. His success will depend on factors other than his strengths. Wish P.C. the best. USC is bigger than one Coach and the forthcoming coming change was not a question of "if" P.C. would leave but "when". Let's not forget if P.C. had returned next year, he would have had challenges. P.C. is now legendary at USC so let's start and support the new chapter of USC football.
For the haters- we appreciate your support and the fact that you associate with us on a daily basis. The mere fact that USC is crucial to your daily existence is noteworthy.
For all true Trojans.. FIGHT ON!
