There seems to be some chatter about Mark Whipple, the OC from Miami, coming to SC. Are you hearing anything?
A: I've heard his name mentioned but the only way he comes is if he feels he is getting pushed out at Miami, because offensive assistants will have restricted duties at USC. It's sort of the reverse of Pete Carroll, who could not hire a big-time defensive coordinator because they wanted control and play-calling duties. So Whipple will need to give up authority if he comes to USC.

What is the purpose of the Sanction Meeting, considering we usually hear about schools being put on probation or getting penalized rather quickly and out of the blue. Or is it because of the circumstances and how this is a new problem the NCAA has to deal with because the payees to players are not affiliated with the school.
A: Usually, these meetings do not get a lot of attention but the Bush case is so big, it magnified the meeting. This is how the NCAA normally deals with these issues. It's important to remember that the NCAA might not announce anything for 4-6 weeks after the meeting in Tempe. It's all up to them. And they are not going to make a decision without a full committee decision because the stakes are so high with this case.

Have you asked Lane Kiffen if he is going to open up the quarterback competition?
A: Not yet. Recruiting and staff hires has been the focus of most questions so far.

Are you surprised most NFL draft predictions have Damian Williams going no higher than the fourth round?
A: If that is the case, yes. Williams is slightly built but so are other receivers (DeSean Jackson). He's also got good speed. But maybe the NFL is downgrading him for his shoulder injuries and the fact he wore down physically this season.

well, Monday has come and basically gone and Norm Chow still hasn't left UCLA.
oh sugar sweeeet! with FL St. vacating their victory over UCLA in the Nut Bowl '06, we now add another gem to our bushel of Bowl Titles. (evidently, we had a slight let down after our stunning 13-9 upset over Natl Championship Game-bound Southern Cal.)
Fun Fact: did you know UCLA was the first ever University to win seven straight Bowl games? (a feat never matched by Southern Cal). again, not bad for a
"basketball school"....oh double sweeeeet!!
To even pretend that UCLA has any sort of proud football history is foolish. UCLA has taken a backseat to USC football since the beginning of time, and aside from an occasional hiccup, always will.
UCLA is a better basketball school. But who cares? Most SC fans/alumni/donors care MUCH more about football than they ever will about basketball.
When UCLA harps on SC about football, it reminds me of NC State fans poking UNC. Sure, you may have had a better season once upon a time, but history bears out that you are a second-class program. When will you guys get it through your heads that it will always be like that.
You can't go back and take away all the Heisman's and National Championships from us in football any more than we can go back and erase Lew Alcindor, Bill Walton, et al. The only difference is that we don't care. The sooner you understand this, the better off we'll all be.
Did John Morton go with PC?
A source reports Stanford offensive coordinator David Shaw might be heading to USC. I'm certain Wolf will be hot on this, especially after he signs.
When are USC fans going to learn how to spell their own coach's name?
Well, Monday has come and gone, and spedjones has not left this board!
Remember the origins of basketball: Peach baskets were nailed to the opposite walls of the gym so the athletes would have something to do after football season ended.
So we will concede basketball (at least the overall record) to the bRuins.
Fight On Coach Kiffin and USC!
Hey BucketHead, you need to look into the definitions of "vacate" and "forfeit", because you have it all wrong...FSU is vacating wins, not forfeiting them. That means that on the FSU side, they take away the wins, but don't add the losses to their record. It's like the W's never happened. And for their opponents, the losses stay on their record. So ucla will not have an Emerald Bowl championship to their credit. Sorry, Charlie...
