Do you think Curtis McNeal will try out for punt returner? Have you ever seen him return punts?

A: I saw him return punts in practice and he seemed pretty adept at it. I think nearly every position is pretty much open right now with a new coaching staff. I expect Travon Patterson, McNeal and even Patrick Hall if he is healthy to be in the mix. Also, in the fall, Robert Woods should be involved, which might be the most exciting prospect. The main thing, of course, is holding on to the ball, which sometimes proves difficult for a freshman. And it was something that eluded Joe McKnight for three years.

I recall last year, maybe in June 09, USC had a football camp/combine for premier high school football players. Do you know if there will be a camp in 2010? Is it invite only? I couldn't find any info online.

A: USC has two types of camps. There is one where any player can sign up and attend. And then there is the elite camp, referred to as the Rising Stars Camp, when Pete Carroll was the coach. Both are planned for this summer. The elite camp is usually an invite-only and attracts top players from across the nation. The regular camp is usually Southern California players and sometimes a prospect comes and ends up on scholarship, like offensive lineman Giovanni Di Poalo.

HI SCOTT
Can you give us weekly post updates on Henderson until the matter gets resolved? Also, I read somewhere where the father said he wants to resolve it by April 1st. Did you see that, as it would seem to favor USC, don't you think? [He said this after the NCAA meeting was over.] Thank you very much.

A: I did hear Henderson's father say. I don't think they really know what the NCAA is doing and are playing it by ear. But I agree that might favor USC. The key is if he signs a letter before the decision. He could just wait and then not be bound at all. Right now, I suspect he will end up at USC barring a draconian penalty from the NCAA.

If Chad Krueter delivers his usual mediocre season again this year, do you think that Garrett will finally make a move to replace him?

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
