Conventional Wisdom Watch
It looks like last year's conventional wisdom that Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford hurt himself by returning for another season proved wrong. Just like the thought Mark Sanchez was not ready to turn pro.
Here's ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay on Bradford:
``"Right now it's more than a 50-50 chance Bradford winds up going No. 1. Unless something is fundamentally wrong - his throwing motion has changed, if he's not getting nearly as much zip on the ball, if there's something that just jumps out at you and is alarming and creates concern. I don't think Pro Day will affect that opportunity to be the No. 1 pick.
``Ultimately, for a lot of different reasons, it's the biggest need and it's the most important position. He has certainly everything you look for when trying to find a quarterback that can be a franchise guy and a very good starter for you, from the accuracy to the toughness and intangibles. But, he also comes with a couple of red flags too. There will be debate in the war room, but I do not think, again, unless it's something completely unexpected, his Pro Day will cost him the spot at No. 1.''

If he's #1, it's a joke. Sanchez did the right thing.
When did I find my way to the "Inside OU" blog?
20-20 hindsight on Sanchez is easy shot to take Secondhand Wolf. I'd like to see all the articles you wrote predicting he would be a starter in the NFL. Not likely to find any are we.
there was no reason to predict Sanchez as starter. He could not get USC offense going until Rose Bowl.
He was helped ultimately by being selected by right team. Elsewhere, he might have sat. But I think he felt he was getting so little help from USC what difference did it make.
This article was about Bradford, and I don't believe he attended USC. Of course, Wolf doesn't have anything to say about USC unless someone else says it first.
Cut Wolf some slack. USC is one of the few schools that regularly fields juniors who can enter the draft as first or second rounders. So any discussion of "stay or go" is relevent to USC, especially if the discussion contrasts the decisions of a non-USC player (Bradford) to that of a USC player (Sanchez), who faced an identitical decision, but made a different choice.
Personally, I think Bradford made the wrong "football" decision by coming back. And I don't think you can look at his 2010 draft position to justify his choice. He may go #1, but he could just as easily havve sustained a career-damaging injury. The more important question is whether he made the right "life" decision. And that's really for him alone to judge and decide.
My point was that its really easy for Secondhand Wolf to criticize Pete Carroll for thinking that Mark Sanchez was not ready to turn pro. But I don't think Wolf penned any articles that pumped up Sanchez as a potential starter. Wolf is a classic 20/20 guy, making the easy calls when no risk is involved.
It sounds like the masses are speaking once again. People are turning against you Mr. Wolf. You have fewer and fewer supporters. Make a change, do some work or bring back Ramona and Jill. They contribute much more to this blog are are far more investigative than you, Mr. Wolf.
Bring back Jill and Ramona.
great point, wolf. that being the only person in the country who predicted Sanchez would bust in the NFL was chetey petey. he did pretty good i think, hmmm?
i hope they got him a good GM up in Walla-Walla cause chetey clearly has no pro talent meter. but he does know what's good for him, and that was Sanchez staying, notwithstanding the fact last year was his time.
at least with Kiff you get integrity!!! =)=)=)
Henderson will sign with Trojans Tuesday!
Edward, I guess Tuesday is when the check cleared the bank and was deposited into the offshore account. When does the car arrive for Henderson?
well scott...I have a problem with your thesis
1. Sanchez is ready for the NFL...I love Mark but you
did see his stats from the previous year, yes? All he did was hand off, at one point the coaching staff wasn't even letting him throw the ball further than 5 yards down field, after his 5 INT game vs. Buffalo.
2. Bradford..well, he is dealing with Claussen and Tebow and McCoy..maybe he would of gone higher last year?
charlie bucket = FAIL
pete carroll NEVER said that sanchez would be a bust in the nfl. get your facts straight.
It is so transparent that Wolf is the name behind Bucket. Bucket-of-Wolfsh** never gets his facts right. Paulm was dead on when he noted that had Sanchez gone elsewhere, he might be sitting. Nevertheless, he will likely be a successful NFL starter.
Wolf never predicted that he would be. It's just easy for Wolf to fire shots at SC coaches without any true ammunition. Why this bozo is in charge of the blog is a mystery.
Maybe the Daily News will get smart and put their top USC columnist and writer Vince Bonsignore to be the host. Then we might get coverage with some actual news content.

Charlie Bucket said: so sugar sweeeet! UCLA makes the postseason again! nothing like March Madness!
Whether these fine athletes' decisions were timely or not is not a concern; the main thing I like at this point is that Sanchez is good pub for high school quarterbacks thinking about going to SC.
