Williams Reflection

| | Comments (6) |

Former USC wide receiver Mike Williams spoke to 710-AM in Seattle about the expectations placed on him when he left college:
``I don't think it was hard, I just think I didn't give myself the best opportunity. I'm not going to point a finger at anybody or anything, just knowing what I know now and the approach I have to the game now, and the attention to detail, just things I learned the hard way that I wasn't equipped with coming into the league.
``I think my year off kind of changed everything because I went from having the structure of football my whole life to literally going through a year of having money and trying to maintain, working out, you know, lost a lot of the edge and the focus that I had which made me successful in college coming off that year.
``Like I said, I'm not pointing fingers, that was all me, regardless of the situation in Detroit and getting drafted there. So I just look at it as sometimes you learn the hard way on things, and I just happened to, my first crack at the NFL was the hard way.''

Respectfully, screw Mike Williams. He talked way too much trash about USC and his teammates when he left for me to give a rats behind about him.

Sounds like he's matured quite a bit. Same with Lendale. Hope they get a chance to speak with current Trojans to share their experiences.

Jon, was LenDale immature? I always perceived him as a real class act who let his actions on the field speak for him.

I've never heard LenDale White say anything negative off the field.

Which is saying a lot considering many college players may have complained with Reggie getting the spotlight and many pros would have issue sharing carries with another back.

The only knock I've heard is that he skipped his post-season meeting with Pete Carroll. But seeing how Pete handles himself when players want to leave early it might have been for the best.

I think some questions arose when he showed up to the combine a couple dozen pounds overweight. And by dropping to the #45 pick cost him a decent chunk of change as well.

All that being said, I'm a big LenDale fan.

What did Mike Williams say?

Williams still is, and will always be, just a selfish loser who wants to "git payeeeeed". Until Reggie Bush and his family came along, Williams held the title of "Dumbest Person Associated with USC Football".

Prediction: Out of loyalty and ego, Pete wont "cut" Mike. He will suffer an "undisclosed injury" in the final pre-season game, put on the shelf and the will simply disappear off the roster around mid-season.

Don't trip, '89 - you snatched that title for yourself years ago.
