About Texas
With the Pac-10 making a bold effort to lure Texas, does anyone think the Longhorns would move only if they couldn't find a better deal elsewhere?
Texas already spoke to the Big Ten, which is considered a superior conference financially.
And I wouldn't be surprised if the SEC put out feelers. But Texas could also stay in the Big 12, even if Nebraska left, and probably make more money than in a 16-team Pac-10.
The other issue is Texas state politics. What's going to happen with Texas A&M? Will the state legislature allow Texas and Texas A&M to play in different conferences? A&M might prefer the SEC to a Pac-16.
All of this will be played out in the next few months and right now, Texas is still a long way from joining the Pac-10. But give commissioner Larry Scott. At least he's trying to dictate what happens instead of sitting back.

Texas and A&M MUST be a package deal, along w/ Tx Tech. The state will use their 3 system schools for optimal leverage and to negotiate as one.
"...does anyone think the Longhorns would move only if they couldn't find a better deal elsewhere?"
Scooter, do you read what you write? Who would make a move to one conference if they could find a better deal elsewhere? How dumb does that sound? Uh, yeah... I know that the Big Ten is giving us a better deal, but we're gonna go with the Pac-10.
Come on man. You always go with the best offer. Seems pretty obvious to me.
As an aside, I hear the Texas legislature is already getting involved - insisting Baylor (over Colorado) be included in any Texas school move. I'm not sure what the Waco market and a perennial loser would do for the Pac-10 prestige. Personally, I'm tired of the ignorant Texans pushing people around with their stupid agendas (textbooks anyone?). Texans are still pissed that they aren't a separate country (never did want to be Americans) and I for one would be okay with them seceding from the Union.
Pac 16 makes the most sense since it's all about TV money. The Pac would have more big TV markets than the SEC and Big 10. And the Pac would be the only option to keep Texas with A&M, and Oklahoma along with all the other teams coming. Also, don't be surprised if Baylor joins instead of Colorado to keep these Texas schools together.
Scott Wolf is the biggest idiot that ever called himself a journalist and that is saying a lot.
Does anyone believe that Texas would get a better deal from the SEC who already were passed by the ACC?
Does anyone believe that with the Big 12 North (dustbowl and dirt farms), Oklahoma and Texas market being split so many ways that networks and cable companies would pay more for those markets?
Does anyone believe that the biggest state in the Union, California, plus Washington, Oregon and Arizona which are totally controlled by PAC 10 BCS schools and rank among the most affluent states will not command at least an ACC level premium?
Does anyone believe that any deal that has 1/3 of Americans and the two biggest states and half the top 20 tv markets as a PAC-Big 6 would not be able to dictate terms to Fox who just bid up the ACC contract out of desperation and lost?
You know it is one thing if Scott wants to down the quality of sports in the conference. It is somewhat subjective. But the business part, market demographics are facts, not his stupidity.
Why isn't this guy fired yet for incompetence?
Texas, as is the U of T, only cares about itself.
All the other texas schools are not important to UT.
UT just likes to play them so they can win and climb the polls.
Texas has only one real rival - Oklahoma. And they play only 1 important game during the regular season and they like it that way.
Remember: Texas was in the southwest conference before joining the big 12.
Texas is going to go or stay in a place where they can play mostly pussie teams so they can top 5 in the rankings while everyone else knocks each other out of NC contention.
