Answer Friday!
Back to those pesky NCAA forum questions.
Q: Sam Gilbert said:
Quarterback Question: I read an article that suggested Mitch Mustain should take advantage of the transfer exception and leave. This in turn would make it more likely that Jesse Scroggins would transfer as he would rather redshirt. Do you think this scenario makes sense and if either player would leave regardless.
A: I don't think Mitch Mustain would transfer because he is comfortable at USC and wants to get his degree. Jesse Scroggins would likely redshirt even if Mustain left unless Matt Barkley got hurt, so I don't think it really affects him either. And I don't think Scroggins would object to playing in some games if he was given that opportunity through an injury.

Theoretically, can USC win an AP title without playing in a bowl? Has it ever happened before?
A: As far as I know, you can vote for whoever you want in the AP poll. I don't know if it's ever happened before but I'm sure someone reading this knows the answer to that question.
Q: The Coach said:
What is the perception of USC by the media and fans after the sanctions? Is USC considered cheaters, overrated, or something else?
A: I think the national media views USC as an outlaw program that deserved probation. National fans view it the same way, I suppose, just because people always assume the worst about other schools.
I think USC fans believe violations were committed but the sanctions were excessive. I always believe the sanctions were excessive because the NCAA was trying to make a point.

Speaking of AP titles, since USC keeps its AP championship, can the University CLAIM that title still? According to the NCAA sanctions, the school needs to wipe out all banners, media guides, etc, etc. to the 2004 national title. So the AP still says USC is the champion that year, but does USC have to IGNORE that???
Yes, Scott, it has happened. The one that immediately comes to mind is Oklahoma in 1974, because they split that title with USC.
1974. Oklahoma went undefeated on a bowl ban and won the AP title. I believe Oklahoma still considers the 1974 title in their cherished collection of 7 or so ap/upi titles (tied with usc).
further question: should usc try to cancel weak opponents and schedule more difficult during bowl ban years?
I believe in 1974 USC won the UPI national title and because Oklahoma was on Probation and went 11-0 they won the AP Championship.
Thanks for the answer Wolf.
the only thing that matters is what's on wikipedia. check out this link about 85% down where they talk about number of titles won per the polls...oklahoma has 7 including 1974. this is the definitive list. ND and alabama with 8 and sc and OK with 7. bruins..? maybe one...i don't have time for those oners...

Most of my friends not from SC assume SC coaches or others working for SC or alum boosters game money and gifts to Bush and others. I live in Arizona, and it's kind of like Obama and Holder critizing the Arizona imigration bill before even reading it. It's only 10 pages.
