Hawaii Misconception

One point missing from today's news on the NCAA allowing a 13th game. The way the report was written, it was not necessarily the Hawaii came that would have to be dropped, a point which the NCAA's statement today seems to ignore.

ok now I'm confused. Are you saying that the NCAA said that we wouldn't have to drop the Hawaii game but that we might have to drop some other game in order to keep the season down to 12 games?

It is interesting to note that Larry Scott intends to split the conference into two divisions as early as the 2011 season. If so USC can possibly get a 13th game in any way with a conference championship game. I don't think that would count towards the 12 game limit as it is not scheduled and conference mandated.

Scott tried to make it controversial, but the NCAA handled it perfectly. They took their time, and did what was in the best interest of everyone involved. The way I read it...the NCAA delayed for one year the sanction on a "exemption" 13th. game, until 2011. USC can't schedule one next year. They play Hawaii at home in 2012, and at Hawaii (great recruiting candy) in 2013. Seems they caught a break with this ruling.
