USC Haters and trolls in 3......2.......1
He wouldn't be livid because he swore to his recruits that there would be no bowl ban, would he? The news isn't all bad - at least Barkley can say he played in the Emerald Bowl.
Perhaps Lame's daddy will offer him a teat for comfort. I think that sanctions is the one area in which he can outperform his predecessor.
i'm not believing anything until everything is made official...
So I was called out for generalizing Trogan fans below. Let me now be precise: For the USC fans who truly and sincerely felt that Pete Carroll's success at the school was honestly earned and that he left on his own accord to try a new challenge, and now feel let down, you have my sympathy (although I think you were a bit naive).
For those others who are still "win at all costs," well, now you will experience the costs and the coach who let it happen/caused it to happen will justifiably have his legacy stained.
Sanctions early in the morning...it smells like victory! Bub-bye!!!
Did you expect him to be doing cartwheels?
Here's the money question regarding incoming recruits, or those who have committed but not yet signed. They have three choices:
1. Play through and just accept there won't be any bowls for one or two seasons. By expectation at USC, that also means no national championship.
2. Strategically red-shirt to sit out a non-bowl year. If you're a freshman in 2010, you redshirt now, be a freshman in 2011 with no bowl, then get three years with bowl eligibility. If you're a freshman in 2011, you sit out then come back with 4 years of bowl eligibility.
3. You decommit (probably only possible for 2011 guys) and play elsewhere.
So, for the 2011 verbals, it's really not the end of the world. This really hurts guys in their prime now...current USC juniors and seniors especially since their last bowl appearance would be the fabled Emerald Bowl win.
Although, current players could redshirt, too, right?
Add in scholarship reductions (which everyone is reporting, too) and that makes things tricky. Somebody needs to be on the field in 2010 and 2011.
Lane is livid? Really? What did he think was going to happen? At least he knew the true story coming in. After all he was there when the violations were going down and he got the update when he came back!! I feel bad for all the recruits that were lied to. Just think, Matt Barkley will play in one Nut Bowl. He is stuck. I hope the class of 2010 is given their releases. I hope this does not screw up the rest of the Pac-10, err ah Pac-16. Thanks a lot guys!!!
Victory for the Bruins!!! Woohooo!!!!! USC sanctions and softball.... the only way we know how to win!!!!
So probably no Heisman, less victories, less players signed on scholarships and no bowl games for the future.... Kind of like playing for UCLA.
UCLA "wins" the only way it can: hope the NCAA tries for four years to find dirt on SC, finds nothing and applies the "sanctions" it had in mind the moment a purportedly jilted "agent" made accusations against a football player. Whatever happened 150 miles from campus out of the University's sight we likely will never know. What we do know is that it had nothing to do with the regular thumpings Pete Carroll's teams applied to all comers. Enjoy your "win", Bruins: payback is a bitch and if you haven't noticed, the only proven cheater (in multiple programs at that) in the Pac-10 coaches in Westwood. And he can't help himself.
Victory for the Bruins! Woohoo! USC sanctions and girls softball... the only two ways we know how to win.
So let's see... no Heisman, less victories, less signings of players and no bowl games for the future... Kind of like playing for the UCLA no?
Remember when a lot of people said when Pete Carroll was hired that you would all end up being Sorry?
For the "It was worth it" people.
Time to pay up, the bill is now due and payable.
I am "Count" Smackula, and i love to count!!
Let's see, how many years bowl ban did trOJies get?
One! Two! two? whattha...and i thought i sucked. the NCAA is out of control. Let me call Tricky Neu-Hassle. he is a trOJie trained atty and if anyone knows how to kick the NCAA's booty, it's Neu!
It'll be interesting how a two-year ban affects recruiting for 2011. As long as USC keeps winning and sending players to the NFL, subsequent recruiting classes shouldn't be affected.
Real crummy for a guy like Barkley, who'll probably go pro after his Junior year, without ever playing in a BCS game.
With no bowl trip this season, I wonder if there'll be a spike in ticket demand for the Hawaii game?
Hey, USCfan-
Sorry to tell ya (no I'm not!), you're officially f****d!!!
i guess all this cheating and unethical conduct finally caught up to us. the only thing our university is known for is football. if it weren't for football, we'd be comparable to cal state bakersfield. why else would anybody come to our school located in the dump better known as south central? maybe it's for the popeye's chicken on figueroa and adams.. at least westwood village doesn't have a popeye's.. mmm mmm love that cheatin.. err i mean, chicken
...i have a funny feeling that the trojans are gonna open up a "can of whoop ass" on ucla this year, just out of spite.
Imagine how much worse it would have been if Pete Carroll, Reggie Bush, and Joe McKnight had ever testified.
How could Lame be so livid? I thought he was "positive the NCAA Ruling wouldn't result in anything that would affect present or future classes"? I'm sorry, I think I just lost all credibility by making Lame sound 1 million times smarter than he is. He said a dumber version of what I quoted.
uh... as if Kiffen had NO freakin' idea that this could possibly happen
some of you guys talked a whole lotta smack about legarret blount last year - well at least he cleaned up his act
and now it is the USC fans turn to feel the pain
but I'm not gloating - I know how hard it is to be a fan of a program that has difficulties controlling 18-22 year olds
and... if this gives the Ducks 2 more rosebowls, then I'll take it
No Arty, we don't remember when anyone said when Pete Carroll was hired that we would all end up being sorry. Fill us in.
Lane = not so smart
Since virtually all of USC's games are nationally televised, or close to it, players get loads of exposure, to say nothing of the media attention they get just for playing at USC. One bowl game does not add much to this where the NFL is concerned - the REAL GOAL for most of the top recruits at USC. Moreover, whether or not the team can go to a bowl, they can still win the conference and the BCS race. In fact, having "nothing to lose" will likely propel them further. If I were the B=ruins, and others (like the Masoli-less Ducks) I would be a little less vocal (think Paul Pierce last Sunday, he may IN FACT not return to LA, but not for the reasons he stated...). Careful what you wish for.
just seen something on a local Comcast show in Portland where one of the guests said that Oregon is going to get all the players that USC wants
I can't say I agree with that, but it just shows how the rest of the confrence all of sudden has really big dreams and is talking really big trash
