One of the NCAA penalties is for USC to disassociate itself from Reggie Bush. Does this mean the No. 5 jersey is immediately availablity for next season?
What difference does it make? it will be just another cheater wearing it anyway. Kiffin is going to be worse than Carroll, watch and see, oh and he's also not very bright, has anyone listened to him speak? the guys is worse than Mike Garrett.

While my last memory of Reggie is his stupid lateral in the Texas game, followed by his pursuit of NFL fame and largess, I am not all that bent out of shape by his taking the money. I find it extremely hypocritical that the folks at the NCAA cry out for amateurism while at the same time taking big bucks from broadcasters. Reggie is suppose to act like ascetic while his coach makes $4M/Yr. All the administrators in the NCAA and at SC took the money created by the athletes and yet they have the audacity to sanctimoniously whine about amateurism. Heck, there isn't any amateurism with the athletes forced to work full time at their sport with the recompense of a scholarship.
IF the jerks at the NCAA really want amateurism, then eliminate all paid coaching positions and all athletic scholarships. The money paid to broadcast should be paid to the student body and not to the president of the universities. But we all know that's not going to happen.
Instead, the schools are being told that they have to spy on their star players so that the players can be pure...CRAP...DOUBLE CRAP....
what happened to being a Southern Cal trOJie for life? have any of you ever made a mistake? now when Mr Reggie needs you all the most, you are throwing him under the bus!! he will continue to cooperate with the NCAA (as he always has) and try to set things right...just don't turn all your backs on him. even OJ-I was welcomed back for a few practices, was he not?

It was pretty much Reggie's parents who did this, mostly from 120 miles away Meanwhile the school, the program, the students, the current players, the alumni, and the fans get screwed. The open practices and locker room didn't contribute one iota to the shenanigans Reggie's parents were in the middle of.
I really understand Pete's reaction. How the hell do you protect your program from this kinda crap?

SC SHOULD sue the agents, RB & his parents. SC should ask the NCAA for all the "evidence" that they used to smack SC so SC and use it to recoup damages from RB & his associates in their lawsuit.
If RB really did nothing wrong then he should be more than willing to cooperate because he would know he couldn't be convicted. They can all agree to a speedy trial. If the NCAA refuses to release or cooperate then SC should move forward. The trial would probably find RB "innocent" due to lack of evidence.
SC shuld then sue the NCAA. At some point institutions have to take a strong stance AGAINST the NCAA (an old bunch of academic farts with ego's BIGGER than Mike Garretts). The NCAA is completly out of touch with todays athlete and todays sports world.
If the NCAA would review and update its own laws whereby it would allow student athletes to actuall earn money while on scholarship there would be less criminal activities, fewer infractions and more cooperation and oversight by member institutions.
Any/every employer seeking to offer a job to a student athlete would have to register with the NCAA and the member institution and with todays real time record keeping and computing (compared to the days when these arcaic NCAA rules were written)compliance would be a reasonable task.
Todays student athlete should be paid a % of the profits earned from what their respective sports bring into the university above and beyond the cost of a scholarship. The real cost of a scholarship is neglable given the amount of scholarships actually being given our compared to what the athletes bring into the university. The main reason however that athletes will never be paid is because Title 9 is KILLING college athletics. Mens football & basketball carry all the financial burden of an athletic department and there are fewer and fewer dollars to go around. However, womens sports are expanding and therefore draining more and more dollars from athletic department budgets without paying even covering their own expenses.

Rob,
We're all tired of hearing about UCLA's superior academics. Use trusted sources in your comparisons, and you'll see that SC and UCLA are almost IDENTICAL. The differences?
USC has a SLIGHTLY lower acceptance rate. SC also has slightly higher SAT scores. US NEWS puts ucla at 24, usc at 26. SAT info can be found at princeton review.
Anyway, I'm sure you know all of this already. If you don't, work on the research skills. But really, stick to the "better location" argument. It's the only one that's valid.
