Pat Haden's legal background is already going to be put to good use with that Titans lawsuit against Lane Kiffin and USC. Let's see how he handles this in contrast to say, Mike Garrett.

Did Haden have his imprimatur on this debacle? Or was this Garrett's last laugh! Expect to get sued when you poach a coach one week before NFL camp opens without even a call to the organization. What class, Lame! Geez, you can't even pick up the phone and tell Fisher you are making the hire? No, not Lame. Just slap them in the face and act surprised when they get offended! Lame probably did not call because he feared the answer would be, "Hell, no! You can't hire him. We have him under contract." Did Haden weigh in with 'legal' advice on this one . . . HADEN: "Lame, just make the hire and we'lll deal with the fall out later. Our collective FB azz is already bleeding and we need to get an OC hired. I don't trust you to handle the OC responsibilities without some real assistance. Just make the hire."

I look out at the Tennessee Titans and their lawsuit and all I see is jealousy. Coach Fisher wishes he could be a Trojan, clearly...what? (man whispers into ear)
My bad.

It is kind of funny how when news of any SC alleged
impropriety hits the wires, the unctuous ucla clan comes scurrying out of their holes like cockroaches hitting on a leftover piece of meat.
The lawsuit will prove frivolous unless they amend it to include a restraining order prohibiting Pola from coaching SC this year.
I don't blame Tennessee for being incensed, losing a pivotal coach just before the season begins. This is not what I would call ethical behavior by Kiffen, and I would hope Haden reins him in or at least keeps an eye on the guy.
Still, all-in-all, in the dog days of the football summer when no other school has been in the papers, SC has been in the news day-by-day. Who said the only bad publcity is no publicity?

it seems pretty clear this lawsuit was filed to send a message. if Haden is the smart atty he keeps telling everyone he is, he will settle this "dog" asap under the veil of nondisclosure.
but if Fish is mad enough, who knows, they may push the matter to trial just to disrupt and embarrass Kiff and Southern Cal (who completely diss'ed him.
i love how Tenn characterizes Southern Cal actions as a "furtherance of a culture of violation and avoidance of respect for the sanctity of contract, which Kiffin similarly practices ..." in the works of Jed Clampett: Oooooooooooooh, Doggy!!!"

I think we can forever cross Fisher off the list of rumored prospects the next time USC's head coaching position becomes available.

This is obviously a publicity stunt. A way to sell Titan football tickets. The Titan organization knows that Tennessee is still mad at USC. By suing them it makes the organization more attractive to the people and therefore they sell tickets.

This is interesting when you think about it. If the Titans win then it will be actionable anytime a headhunter or company contacts a potential employee when employed by another company. Well, that happens millions of times a day. Personally I am contacted over 20 times a month even though I'm not posting for a job. Recruiters have databases with anyone who has ever posted. I cannot see this case not being summarily dismissed.
On a second note; Jeff was informed before the initial contact. After Pola declined the offer Lane failed to inform him again before asking one last time. Given that Pola's contract is not involving USC, I see no possible ground for the Titans. This case is as frivolous as it gets!

Sy, you're a dope. Term contracts and at-will employment are completely different. Interference claims are hard to win, but not uncommon and this case will not set any new legal bar. Cheat ON Trogans!

Hi spedjones,
"The lawsuit, filed in Davidson County Chancery Court, said Pola's contract required him to get written permission to discuss jobs with other teams." The requirement is on Pola, not Kiffin or USC. They may have a legit suit against Pola, but at no point was USC pervy or informed about Pola's contract details, nor can they be held responsible. Pola had the obligation, not Kiffin or USC. What is so difficult to understand here?
