McNair Out

| | Comments (17) |

USC issued the following statement on assistant football coach Todd McNair.
"Todd McNair's contract expired on June 30, 2010. We have no additional comment."

This naturally leads to a host of questions, such as:
If USC so vigorously defended McNair's relationship (or lack of) with the would-be sports marketers tied to Reggie Bush, why he is being released now?
Was USC worried if it fired McNair in January, he might say something more damaging at the NCAA hearing in Arizona?
Is USC dumping McNair in hopes of currying favor with the NCAA after being blindsided by the NCAA sanctions?

Those are all good questions Scooter. Now if we could only find an intrepid reporter to get some answers for us. Hmmn...

For as much as I love USC, and for as much as I think the NCAA is full of B.S., the USC leadership sure has really botched this whole process. It's really very awful.

It amazes me that such foolish people (Garrett, Sample, the high-priced legal team) can make so much money and still keep their jobs after all of this.

I hope I am proven totally wrong here: But USC is dreaming if they think they can overturn any of this NCAA decision now, whether it's justified or not.

I think USC was in an impossible situation with McNair and maybe they're doing the best they can with the cards they still have in their hand.

If they fire him, are they implying that the NCAA's view that McNair was lying has merit? If they keep him on, are they snubbing their noses at the NCAA?

At least this way, in the game of semantics, they can say that they did not fire him (but how many headlines across the Internet will claim just that?).

The last remaining link to those in power during the Bush/Mayo tenure is Garrett. His only reported comments post-sanctions were not helpful to say the least. He is not the face of this appeal.

It is time for him to fall on his sword.

What I want to know is how much is he being paid by sc to keep his mouth shut?

Actually, McNair was not fired. His contract expired after which McNair and USC did not come to a new agreement. No comment has been made, but it is assumed that USC felt McNair was too limited in his ability to assist USC as he cannot talk to recruits, which is a major function of his job. Also, he is radioactive with regards to just being there as he may answer a phone when a recruit called, run into a recruit on the field while working with the team, etc., etc., etc. Just a claim could be enough for additional sanctions.

Essentially, the NCAA forced USC to let his contract expire as they made it impossible for him to do his job. It will be some time before we know if any other issues played a part in his departure. He has not been allowed on the field again since the sanctions were released even though USC defends his position.

The NCAA has to be laughing their asses off, could southern cal have botched this to a greater degree if they tried? I hope MG remains athletic director. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

McNair claimed to NOT know the booster that was paying Reggie, yet he was posing for a picture (frat boy style) in a hollywood nightclub with said booster

Then USC says to the investigators that those other guys in the picture just walked up behid the other guys and posed and that none of them knew each other

AND HERE IS THE FUNNY PART.... that was USC's argument to reduce the 2 year bowl ban
