Number Crunch

The departure of Seantrel Henderson means one thing: USC signed just one offensive lineman in this recruiting class. Blame Pete Carroll for doing a poor job recruiting offensive linemen and leaving Lane Kiffin little time to recover.
Regarding Henderson, it’s a mixed blessing. Obviously he was a special talent, but how high-maintenance would he be with his attitude?

  1. Blame your self-indulgent, arrogant, lying, cheating Caeser? Hmmm.

  2. No problem, Wolfie…turns out all of SC’s five star WR recruits know how to block as well!

In all seriousness, who is going to block for MB7 and all their incoming QBs? Ed Ogre might have to get out there himself! Rip of his shirt and give some grunts to the boys on the line! argh argh argh

  3. “How maintenance would he be?” Hard say. I guess we’ll never.

  4. A bad attitude with a great deal of potential. Somewhat like UB’s son VB… minus the great deal of potential.

So UB, when you look at your son and think about how he failed to follow in your footsteps at UCLA, who do you blame? Yourself? Your son? His mother? Maybe his biological father?

  5. Hey UB, you sound like a guy whose been dumped by girls a lot. Very bitter, envious, etc. True?

I hear Rick Ratheisal is trying to recruit some of your girls softball players this year. Any truth to that? You guys might finally get that offensive line you guys have always wanted.

  6. In my opinion a good decision by Kiffin. Although he is a loss physically, I think it is the best for everyone that he moves on. Even if the sanctions did not occur, he was the weakest commit of the class by far and academically there are many questions. Certainly as a team leader and a morale booster he is not the right fit for USC. He is very impressive on the field, but it was clear he would have taken much, if not all, of that benefit away from the team off the field. So ends the Henderson drama…

    My two cents worth…

  7. One last comment; when the going gets tough, the tough don’t run away. We have been unfairly treated as all Trojans know. Those with a true Trojan heart and soul will fight for our redemption on the field. Those of us who cannot support our team on the field (the vast majority obviously) should support our team as loyal fans.

USC did not cheat in any way. One player did and made very bad decisions in assisting his step-father. The sanctions were primarily based on bad information as was the loss of our 2004 national BCS title. Reggie did not receive his car in ’04, but instead in spring of ’05. The car was not a red flag as it was very inexpensive and fitted his economic condition. Otherwise he flashed no money eating at commons with the other players, etc. As for McNair, the NCAA goofed there as well stating he spoke with Lake for 2.5 minutes during the night in ’05. The call came in ’06 and who really knows what, if anything, was said as the NCAA took the word of a convicted felon over Todd.

Further, a key member of the NCAA team is from Notre Dame who we have constantly beaten over the past decade. They have a new coach and desperately need to beat SC to be considered successful. The conflicts of interest are extreme and should not have been allowed by the NCAA.

We have been unfairly treated to say the least and our players have the USC honor at stake. I hope they all see this as an opportunity to become a truly special team that will be talked about for decades!

  8. Sy……..well said.
Henderson did seem like a Everson Griffin type.

  9. “The call came in ’06 and who really knows what, if anything, was said as the NCAA took the word of a convicted felon over Todd.”

…McNair is also a convicted felon.

  10. Hi BRUtus,

Apparently McNair is no saint; however, also not a crook, nor a felon. I love dogs and personally have five. I am disgusted to find that McNair abused these wonderful animals. That being said, it is not the same as Lake who is a con-man, thief and a drug-dealer. McNair was never convicted of a felony to set the record straight as the following facts state:

“The grand jury failed to indict Todd McNair on dog-fighting charges, and the case was remanded to the lower court on July 2, 1996. On October 10, 1996, McNair was convicted of 22 misdemeanor counts of failure to provide proper care for his dogs. He paid fines and restitution totaling $16,226.50.”

McNair was sentenced to zero time in jail from what I’ve read, a far cry from Lake. You cannot compare the two fairly as to the quality of their word. As for human beings, that’s another story! Unfortunately dog fighting is common practice where McNair grew-up. That in no way excuses it; however, it is not the same as Lake’s history, nor does it reflect on the quality of his word as does Lake’s serious felonies.

  11. There has been a lot of talk about SC’s imminent demise by UCLA fans. I’m sorry that you don’t have much to talk about at UCLA. I really liked Dorel and was very impressed with his progress. He beat us once and gave us fits when he lost. At the time they fired him his current recruiting class was ranked #2 in the country by Rivals. It was clear the old rivalry was back and it was fun to watch.

Then the surprise… For inexplicable reasons impossible to comprehend UCLA fired Doral and replaced him with Rick. Rick had no history of success coaching or recruiting. On top of which he had a lot of questionable events to be kind. Since taking over UCLA has degraded substantially and I for one am sad to see it.

You see you cannot win without some talent. Rick cannot recruit quality talent. So far he has recruited only 4 three star and 1 two star athletes. SC has, with all of its sanctions and problems, recruited 1 five star and 7 four star athletes. The team to be wary of is Stanford. Jim year in and year out recruits well and coaches well. He has already gained 20 commitments mostly from 4 star athletes.

UCLA needs to make some choices here starting with finding a decent coach and then keeping him. I cannot imagine what UCLA’s AD is thinking but the recruiting numbers will always give a clear indication of long-term success or lack thereof.

I would love to see both teams do well and the nation to be tuned in when they play.

    My two cents worth…

  12. “…high-maintenance would he be with his attitude?”

Is it really copping an attitude if a player does not want to join a program that has been officially convicted of cheating, may not be competitive in the near future, and will not be playing in bowl games?

Henderson’s real mistake was believing the lies of U$C and Lame Kiffin in the first place. Getting released from his LOI is his way of correcting that error.

The fact that more players are not doing the same is simply indicative of the type of players SUC recruits: those with poor judgment!

  13. Be careful bRuins, or we might just use some of those scholarships to take some of your best players away. Bwaahhhaahhaa!!!
