We hear within the athletic dept. that instead of cheers for the removal of Mike Garrett, there is apprehension over the hire of Pat Haden.
``They knew what they had with Garrett,'' one member said. ``They don't know right now.''
Damn right the coaches are concerned... Pat Haden has made a career of never showing his cards, never being serious or concrete about something. He will probably keep the athletic department wondering what he is thinking most of the time. If this is what the new chancellor wanted, he got his man!

That's b/c Haden is a man of integrity, and those buffoons in the athletic dept have no idea how to work w/ someone w/a modicum of morals.
Shape up or ship out Trogans...a new sheriff is in town.
Thanks Pete.

geez louise, this is sounding like the old NYPD precincts were all the dirty cops get nervous when a new Chief comes in...just how corrupt is Heritage Hall???
You just can't wait to start all over again! Pat is a great guy and everyone who knows him loves him. If people are worried it maybe because there will be some changes. The baseball coach will, I'm sure, be replaced as other under-performing coaches and staff members. For the most part, everyone performs well and most will find the transition seamless outside of the new scrutiny of the compliance team.
Pat will do a great job for as long as he wants the job. My biggest concern with him is that he maybe only helping until the appeal is over and the ship is working well sort-of-speak. We will be very lucky if he decides to stay for the long run. He is great about telling everyone what he thinks and feels and will be articulate and intelligent about every decision. Scott, you need to give it a rest!

Pretty average hiring if you ask me.....Its not like Haden is a Rhodes Scholar, Lawyer, National Champion (twice), Academic All American (twice),Professional NFL player, commentator for one of the biggest national television networks.
I want Mike Garrett back, he won a Heisman.

Yeah, we knew what we had with Mike Garrett: ABSOULUTE CRAP PERSONIFIED.
Mike Garrett was a disgrace. He should not have been allowed to a dignified retirement for the horrible job he has done as Athletic Director. For the amount of money he received as AD, I take no pity on him.
And Scott, of course there is "aprehension" within the athletic department. That happens any time there is change in any organization. Besides, the athletic department is still full of Garrett's cronies.
The jury is still out on Pat Haden. But I'm more impressed with Max Nikias than anyone else right now.

Getting the Compliance department staffed and in top shape is the biggest priority for Haden and rightfully so. My concern with him is that he may sacrifice principle to uphold his likeability and to try to get the rest of the NCAA members to like us. I didn't listen to his press conference but from snippets I've read, he does not seem to possess the same fire for fighting the excessive sanctions. He keeps referring to "adhering to the sanctions" and "marking the date in 2014 when the sanctions end". I would hope he and Nikias will fight to the bitter end for justice and not worry about hurting NCAA's and USC bashers' feelings. We should accept responsibility and the punishment where we cross the line but the punishment must fit the crime.

There are some exceptionally wonderful people working in the Athletic Department that I enjoy interacting with regularly. However, as a long time supporter of USC Athletics I've witnessed an attitude of arrogance permeate the department over the past 5-years or so. This attitude has translated into terrible customer service and a general contempt towards the support group members.
For example it started with unreturned phone calls and generally poor communication to being told: "You don't have to renew your season tickets, we'll just sell them for more to someone else".
I welcome the hiring of Pat Haden and the changes he will be making! Fight On!

Come on guys, loosen up a bit. I don't like Mike Garrett either and I think he's an arrogant disgrace, but it looks as though the extended and erect ship that USC has always been is unravelling on these blog pages.
We have to stick together on this one guys. We have to show other college football fans and especially the bRuins that nothing will stop us. Nothing.
Fight On, Trojans!!!
On the sanctions: If the glove don't fit, you must acquit! (meaning, the punishment must fairly fit the crime).

I couldn't agree more with everything you said. I complained to management after a cocky ticket sales associate raised his voice at me then told my wife that if she didn't like his service, that she could try calling ticketmaster. And he told her in a sing song voice! Unbelievable.
I must say that the manager handled it pretty well and we were able to score better seats, but I'm still shocked by that young man's attitude. What's worse is that management said that he is currently a student. For that kid's sake, I hope he learns a lesson in respect. What a shame. I hope he reads this someday and learns that USC is better than that.

Are you on drugs, Scott?
This is how all power-shifts take place.
