I think it would be really tough to have run Carroll out of town. Garrett was easy. Carroll, not so much.
The Donkey says it's a moot point. Without post-season play Pete Carroll would have left by himself. The Donkey says Pete was already unhappy with the BCS formula and wanted a play-off system in place.
the "Real Question" is how many days will it take Wolfe to alienate Pat Haden and the entire AD staff? I'd put the over/under at 15.
Gotta love them hypotheticals. If you were a hot dog... and you were starving, would you eat yourself?
What the heck, I'll take the bait. If Carroll had remained, he would have worked with Haden to ensure compliance, and Haden would have given Carroll free reign to run the football program under the watchful eye of McKay. As long as Kiffin or Carroll or whoever reports what's going on, the compliance staff can monitor things and report potential violations to the NCAA. That's what the NCAA wants. Florida is probably going to get a slap on the wrist--I bet they won't even have to forfeit the Sugar Bowl game--because they reported the infraction right away. Now, if it turns out there was a longer history of this kind of thing going on and/or other players were involved, that's different. But so far, it looks to me like Florida's athletic department did want the NCAA wants.
If the OCR bought out the DN, would Wolf remain employed?
JAG: not a chance.
Absolutely. Haden is/was a winner. He would maintain better control, "clean house" a bit, but knows to "never change a winning game."
You've got to be kidding! Pete would never be asked to leave. He had nothing to do with the whole Reggie affair and is not responsible for compliance. Compliance is 100% the responsibility of the AD as the department does not just look at football, but all other sports as well. There is no way Pete (the most successful head coach we have had since McKay) would be asked to leave! A truly ridicules question!
The evidence indicates that Pete circumvented his own "Compliance" Department when he hired an over-the-limit NFL coach. He was guilty of cheating, just like Bush, and chances are he knew what Bush was doing.
Those of you saying that Haden would not boot Cheatey Petey are essentially stating that Haden would condone unethical behavior...great choice for a new AD.
Cheat On!

Hi PeterUCLA,
The "coach" was a part-time consultant who was brought in to help the special teams. I think he assisted a couple of days a week for a relatively short time. It was stupid, but he was not involved in any way like Baxter is now.
It was a bad decision, especially since the NCAA was looking at us with a microscope. I blame Mike as much as Pete for allowing it. As it is the AD who must approve all hires and salaries, I don't think Pete would be in any danger of being fired in any way. That was the only infraction against Pete during his entire 9 years and a four year investigation according to the NCAA.
If I recall, USC's special teams actually performed worse the season that the consultant was hired. Not that it matters, but USC did not obtain a competitive advantage on the field that season, although that was the intent.
Jesus, Wolf...what a stupid question!!!
