Short-Term Memory
The most asinine thing I've seen today was a USC fan website blog that ripped Titans coach Jeff Fisher for his tipped pass that was caught by UCLA tailback Freeman McNeil in the Bruins' 1980 victory over the Trojans.
Even 30 years later, Fisher's class is recalled by those at the game as he answered questions from the media and did not duck interviews. But then, USC fan websites have short memories.

i think 'ungrateful' is the term you're looking for, wolfie. short-term memory is the opposite of what you just described.
However, he is a bit of a cry baby.
some fans on wolfman's blog have short memories as well:

Still peeved at Jeff Fisher for tipping the game-winning TD to Freeman McNeil in 1980. Nevertheless, Kiffin should have called Fisher earlier in the process.

oh no you just din't, southerncalmike!!!
I really don't feel Fisher was responsible for the lawsuit. Sure he was pissed, but probably more because of the inconvenience of having to hire a new coach, not because Kiffen violated professional etiquette by contacting Pola. I am sure he has more pressing things to do than to sue SC.
F the press.
F Fisher, I saw it. Worst play since SC's safety let Beban throw that TD pass. (F him too)
That team was on Probation and Bowl Ineligible too. Some things never change. Just hope it doesn't take 22 years to turn it around again. 1980 was the best defense USC had until possibly the 2008 team. Ronnie Lott, Dennis Smith, Joey Browner & Fischer in the Defensive Backfield. Scary good.
Perhaps it is true that some USC fan websites have short memories, but having one of them recall a play made in a game three decades ago isn't a great example to use to prove that point.
My comment was nothing malicious toward Fisher. The fact remains that he will forever be associated with a tipped pass that led to UCLA winning the game.
It happens in sports: Chris Webber...time out he didn't have. Bill Buckner...ground ball through the legs. Donnie Moore...gave up Dave Henderson game-tying HR.
And the list goes on...even at USC: Reggie Bush...carelessly lateraling the ball in the Rose Bowl (and now sanctions). LaVale Woods...fumbling the ball to give UCLA a second chance in 1996 game. Hershel Dennis...fumbling in OT against Cal in 2003. Jeff Fisher...tipping pass right to Freeman McNeil. Sometimes, the losses are hard to forget.
Any one of my personal USC low-lights: Ted Tollner...USC punting directly to Tim Brown in 1986.

Mike, my personal low-light - Scott Wolf
As Wolf bumbles, he has not asked why the stink from Fisher and the hapless Titans? Is Pola really irreplaceable coach? Did USC really interfere with the contract?
Does anyone else smell something afoot --besides Wolf that is?
Kiffin is an absolute idiot for not following protocol! I wonder where is Haden?, where is Monte? to hold the kids hand because clearly he is too young to know or understand how the game is played. Now with that said the biggest idiots in all of this is Jeff Fisher and the Titans....seriously a... L-A-W-S-U-I-T ???? When I first heard this today (second hand) I thought it was a joke, how completely sad and desperate to actually follow through with a lawsuit. Show some F'n pride Tennessee, this is kind of like suing an ex-girlfriend for dumping you for a a new dude, a dude who is a starter on JV! Seriously, it is pathetic, he is a running back coach, who is going to a college program for a better title and TN is blowing its load and lawyering up. Jeff Fisher - I used to think you were the man, and honestly bud, no matter how big a douche Kiffin may or may not be, you need to disassociate yourself with this big time and lay this 100% on the inbred TN ownership cause seriously bud this reeks of you jumping the shark, don't do it man, your legacy is better than that! Or at least should be!
Protocol? LOL. There are no laws that govern this.
Protocol is like a handshake or grabbing a sandwich with a buddy.
Protocol. LOL.
Brainiac - From the Associated Free Press "Jeff Fisher: Lane Kiffin broke protocol in hiring Kennedy Pola".
I'm just saying...you call it whatever makes you feel good!
Fisher was totally at fault for the Freeman McNeil play. He had a perfect angle on the ball but tried to cradle it with his arms rather than extend and catch it with his hands. It bounced out of his arms and the rest is painful history. 30 years later it still hurts.
UCLA was the better team that day though. We couldn't stop their run to save our lives. Only some big plays and a few breaks kept us in the game.
