Is Tim Floyd the happiest ex-coach at USC following Mike Garrett's departure? Or Mike Gillespie? Or John Robinson? Or Jim Bush?

The sad part of this is that some very great coaches were snubbed by Mike. From the very start, Garrett was known to have a chip on his shoulder, however it was perceived as drive for the university. For those who you mentioned besides Floyd, they were contributors who should have never been dealt with as they were. I hope they found the strength to move on without holding the university at fault.

In terms of overall happiness, Pete Carroll is probably the happiest. Hard to be unhappy with a salary of $7 million a year and your "dream job".

I agree with Rich that it is sad that Garrett snubbed some excellent coaches. But I feel worse for the players that he belittled. Good for Carroll and Floyd for sticking up for them.

Mike Garrett did not ever deserve to be the USC athletic director. I don't care about the Galen Center (which arguably was funded by money Pete Carroll produced), Mike Garrett did nothing but harm to USC. Even the best football years he managed to screw up in a big way. Mike Garrett was the Gomer Pyle of athletic directors.

Per Twitter, it seems Travon Patterson to University of Colorado.

I like every one of those coaches, but it was time for ALL FOUR to go and it's not MGs fault. Period.

Trojan Rewind Author Profile Page said:

it WAS MGs fault. Period.

Bull$hit, JRob was doing a half a$$ job with his son David; Mike G hadn't won in a long time and there was no "fire" in the belly; ask Tim Floyd about trying to tell the TRUTH about Guillory/OJ Mayo; Bush, I don't know.

BTW, Garrett did more for USC than all four put together. 23 National Championships. PERIOD

It WAS MGs fault. Period. And, it WAS NOT MGs fault. Period.

When coaches don't win (or step in poop like Floyd) then the need to go. The exception on that list is Gillespie (IMO), who earned the right and had the track record to continue.

But, MG was a terrible manager of people and awful face of the University. He handled things horribly. There is a way to do things and then there is MGs way. For that It WAS MGs fault. Period.

Gillespie is a friend of mine and he DID need to go. He hadn't won since 94. He needed to GO. PERIOD

And my bet is that Mike Garrett would give YOU the time of day. Am I right? Admit it.

Trojan Rewind Author Profile Page said:

yeah because when water polo wins, they did it against 300 other schools, right? PERIOD

by the way...who was basketball's main administrator and oversaw the OJ/Floyd thing? it was MG. PERIOD

Trojan Rewind Author Profile Page said:

Garrett also put the department on probation twice in a decade and that's more than all four put together. PERIOD

Well guys, it's a different world today than it was last week. I think we need to thank Garrett and reflect on his tenure with balance. There was a lot of good. There was heaping tablespoon or 12 of bad. Who knew that an athlete like Mayo could be so brazen? Who knew that Reggie's parents were such imbeciles getting into bed with con artists?

A few years passing of time will put Garrett in a very positive light again. As the budding SEC scandal is showing, you can't babysit these kids 24/7. The NCAA has decided to hold schools responsible for high profile athletes. They're gonna be really busy in the coming years. Maybe Cal will get to go to the Rose Bowl again!

The most shocking revelation in the whole Mike Garrett saga was that he routinely yelled at players. In Scott's piece, he referenced multiple times that MG was asked to "simmer down" after shouting at guys like Daniel Hackett and various football players.

An AD has NO BUSINESS yelling at athletes - at least not for anything performance-related. He could have yelled at them all he wanted had their grades been slipping or had they violated SC standards, but the impression I got from Scott's piece was that he was yelling at them for perceived poor play. That's the coaches' job. That's not MG's job - and thankfully, none of it is his job anymore.

MG might have the heart of a Trojan, but he has the brain of a nincompoop. I think Pat Haden is going to do just fine in his new role. SC fans/students/alums are going to see how a real athletic director works.

Fight on!

TR, the only thing we agree on is NDLoser is an idiot. Anyway, all this doesn't matter for the furture. MG is gone PH is here. We'll see how MG compares in the next 10 years. I hope PH does an even better job. He should, the stable of coaches (except Chad) is full of excellent horses. Go PH.

Let us not forget the past in fear of repeating it. We will remember Garrett as a complete Jerk Off. Funny thing is that he was so intolerable of 18, 19 & 20 year old kids making mistakes while the whole time he was driving the car blindly with reckless abandon. I guess when you tell the world via an alumni gathering, "they are jealous because they all want to be Trojans" speaks of his complete arrogance and utter lack of knowledge of other peoples desires. If MG was any good as an AD he will bounce back and find another job, that is highly doubtful though.
