Maybe Lane Kiffin did not follow proper protocol. Maybe he did. But the guy's got an incredible talent for offending others. As long as he does not offend Pat Haden, he should be OK.

Wow! Now there's irony for ya. Wolf accusing someone of having talent for offending others. Why is it that people who speak arrogantly are often the most thin-skinned? Look in the mirror Wolf.

face the facts, Southern Cal Nation, wolf has forgotten more about Southern Cal sports than you'll ever know. he is a professional journalist (one of the best by most accounts) and you all would be better off listening to him.
if you doubt me, ask yourself on question: was wolf right about Caesar, Garrett and Floyd Sidious?? oh he was?? thank you!

This is an odd remark from Jeff as Lane was openly recruiting Pola for months now. Jeff considers that after Pola turned down Lane that Lane needed to re-inform Jeff that he was still continuing to pursue Pola - outrageous! Jeff does not deserve anything after what he did to Byner following such a great job for Jeff.
Tennessee is the only school to openly go after all upperclassmen that are eligible to leave. It has been kind of open warfare with the state ever since Lane left them. I suspect the feud will last a long time given that part of the country's feuding history...

Did anyone see the brilliantly written story on Pat Haden by David Wharton --a USC alum-- in the L.A. Times. That, gentleman, is journalism and access! Walking around with and getting one-on-one face time with the new AD. Secondhand Wolf is lucky to get his questions answered at a mobbed press conference.

Yes, he seems to have forgotten quite a bit about USC football. That's sad for a person so young. No, he's wrong about Coach Carroll, but now I understand why. Fisher should not have whined to the press, and discussed his differences with Kiffen. Pola has always been the guy he wanted.

Actually Kiffen's first choice was Chow, second was Bieniemy, and third was Pola.

From Jeff Fisher's perspective, this is a no-brainer... he's coaching a NFL franchise and a college program (on probation no less) comes in and offers essentially a lateral transfer to his RB coach and the coach takes it. Fisher needs some serious CYA fire and who better to target than the most hated man in Tennessee since Abraham Lincoln. The South in general is pretty insular and quick to blame others for their misfortune, so it was an easy hand to play.

OK, I get that Kiffin should have contacted Fisher first. But how about Fisher discussing this with Kiffin and Hayden and not go running to the press? Way to represent.

Let's play journalist --something Wolf does poorly. Why dd Fisher go to the press? He's a pro coach for goodness sake. The NFL is a dog-eat-dog business and he expects college-level niceties.
And let's not let Secondhand Wolf off the hook. The Bozo lifted the clip from The Tennessean. I'm sure those people are applying balance to their journalism. Geez, talk about being a tool.
So what's this really about? Why did Fisher squawk? Could it be he wanted someone else to cry foul as he covered his ass?? There's a word picture: Wolf Howl Covers Titans' Ass.

Hi LakewoodBruin,
Your statement is partially correct. Norm was his first choice for OC; however, Pola was not to be the OC and was his first choice for running backs coach. Lane wanted him to be the running backs coach only. Pola would not take the job unless Lane made him also the OC. Finally Lane capitulated this weekend after having no success with Eric either, which is why Pola changed his mind. As a running backs coach Pola is his first choice. Pola is both the running backs coach and the OC. Eric would have only been a running backs coach and Norm would have only been an OC. I hope that clears it up a bit.
Hi LanceKiffin,
Totally agree!
Hi Trojan Conquest,
Lane did cover it with him the first time over. After Pola turned down the offer Lane then reoffered the job to him this weekend with the added OC position, which Pola accepted. Fisher was upset that Lane did not come back to him a second time. Really ridicules and as LanceKiffin stated, Fisher was motivated by his own interests to make the highly public complaint.
I hope Kiff won't talk to you either.
