One thing this incident demonstrates is that a high school player graduating early and enrolling in the spring semester does not necessarily make better decisions than freshman who arrive in the summer.

@SD Trojan, I disagree, Scott Wolf is an excellent writer and his job is to write it as he sees it, not only what you want to read. Great job Scott, keep up the great work, I wish more trojan fans would recognize and appreciate your excellent work.

wolfie, i seem to be one of the few on this site who like you but your conclusion here is screwball. i don't know anyone who assumes that a hs player graduating early is more mature, smarter or more likely to make good decisions. football players enrolling early do it for fb reasons, not because they were emotionally stunted in hs or needed keep their brains stimulated and had to make the difficult decision between football at sc or calculating moon shots at caltech.
if the report is true, this is friggen pathetic. pathetic.

Dillion made a big mistake for a football player of any school. I'm sure many of them make this mistake and don't get caught, but Dillion is special. He has a chance to be a top 5 draft pick and make a mint. He really needs to focus and not make stupid decisions. He is possibly better than Reggie (79 touchdowns in one season is the state record - that means he hit pay dirt about 6 times a game!). He will be incredibly exciting to watch, but he needs to do it right for himself and his family as well as for his school. I really hope he can get it together!
As for Wolf; some of his reporting is fine and a lot is very bias against key SC figures such as Pete, Mike, etc. They may or may not deserve criticism, but they also deserve credit as they made a lot of changes that we can all take pride in (i.e. 8 – 1 against both Notre Dame and UCLA, 7 straight Pac-10 titles, two AP national titles, etc.).
As for UCLA fans laughing at USC's problems, I'm sure I don't have to remind you that winning the game is still important and your teams over the past decade have been weighted and measured and found lacking. People in glass houses...

One thing this incident demonstrates is that an anecdotal incident is not proof that there is a connection between two things - graduating early and making mature decisions - that no one would have ever assumed to be related to one another.

1. Why are there so many Bruin fans that feel the need to submit their inane observations here? I have been coming to this board off and on for years now and I still can't figure that out. I've never posted a comment to a Bruin blog ever.
2. The kid who comes in early in the spring and the kid who gets here in the fall are in the EXACT SAME AGE group!!! Why would one make any better judgment than the other and who ever said that was the case? The only positive to the kids enrolling early as I have understood it is that they get 6 months additional time to learn the playbook and may see additional playing time as a result. I've never heard anyone claim one would be more mature than the other. Your "observation" makes absolutely no sense because I don't think anyone has ever claimed one kid to be more mature than the other...

Let's see - Dillon hasn't taken a snap yet for the Trogans, and he's made his school publicly apologize to other schools for his lie (yes, Dillon, you lied) - and now he's suspended for a game.
Can team captain be far behind?

I would think that's it's somewhat reasonable to assume that a person who was able to graduate from high school in 3 1/2 years is at least in the upper half of his graduating class as far as maturation is concerned. At the very least, he didn't dick around and fail classes - causing him to work hard his senior year. I mean, I was an honor roll student in high school (as I'm sure 99% of the people who post here were) but I didn't have the credits to graduate early. (although many of us were taking AP classes and prepping for AP tests that gave us college credit).
It also stands to reason that a person enrolling several months early would gain some semblance of comfort-ability with the school - increasing the odds that he would do things that other college students were doing. Smoking pot isn't the end of the world, nor is it the mark of a bad person. It would be disingenuous for us to suggest it is, as many on here have smoked at least once in our lives. That said, being the highest profile freshman at a program on probation, Dillon Baxter needs to keep his nose (and his lungs) clean. He made a bad decision. Hopefully, he'll abide by Lane Kiffin's rules and stay out of trouble. Otherwise, Pat Haden will have him in his office discussing more serious consequences.
Fight on!

I think the USC football team is just made of up attention whores. Their only way to get on the news is by: critizing your former teammates and coaches, breaking teammates' faces, lying about school contacting him, getting caught smoking pot, stealing coaches from the NFL, the list goes on and on and on...those leather mini skirt weargin trojans are surely dying for attention.
