Double-Edged Sword

The talk of two-way players, probably more likely after this season, always appeals to any player. Daylon McCutcheon briefly tried it in 1997 and Taylor Mays talked about it but it never happened under Pete Carroll.
It's a novel idea and might be necessary evil under probation. The one drawback is if some players resent a guy flipping sides. A cornerback might not appreciate a hot shot wide receiver jumping over for a few snaps in practice and then playing over him in a game.
But this is the new world USC needs to survive in for the next few years, so challenges will pop up with every decision.

If I were a JC football player, I would be calling USC because aren't we looking to fill last year's class with spring enrollees? If usc fills that class and gets another 25 for this class (can usc do this or are the trojans self-imposing a 5 schollie reduction?), these schollie reductions shouldn't affect us much at all. I could see us having the same amount of schollies as there currently are on this year's team.

10 --(redshirts) 2010 class
25 -- 2011 class
15 -- (2012 class assuming worst sanctions)
15 -- (2013 class assuming worst sanctions)
15 -- (2014 class assuming worst sanctions)
_______
80 scholarships with sanctions at their worst (far more than we currently have without sanctions?)

question: say we give a scholarship during sanctions and the guy transfers a year later. can we use that scholarship on a new player post-transfer?

poll question: should gable (safety) and bradford (linebacker) played defense (which is how they were listed in scout.com) in order to maximize their chances of making real money in the nfl? if you ask me, they could have been awesome on the other side of the ball. which is why mamba's eagerness to play cornerback is so awesome for the trojans. especially with baxter rippin' up already from the offensive backfield

scscin6, LMAO what makes you think JC players want to go to USC? you're funny in delusional way.

I heard Bradford was a great high school linebacker, didn't know Gable was also a safety. I'd guess it was too late for them to switch positions, even if they wanted to.

You'd have to take more into consideration than just performance. For instance; is the next draft deep in linebackers, safeties and/or running backs?

mamba is deanthony thomas, the next great cornerback in american football. possibly a great running back too. faster and quicker than a ucla nerd filling out a scantron sheet
