Freeh Advice
The Freeh Group, which was hired by USC following the NCAA sanctions and is named after former FBI director Louis Freeh, sent a team to campus to interview staff members of the athletic dept. and get their input and impressions of how things are run.
This is one of those feel-good measures to show USC is taking things seriously regarding the violations and accusations of lack of institutional control.
The curious part is the involvement of the Freeh Group. Remember Freeh worked as legal council to Saudi Arabia's Prince Bandar, defending him in a corruption investigation launched by the U.S. Department of Justice that accused a British defense contractor of funneling billions of dollars in payments and gifts to Bandar so that he could buy himself an airplane (which he had painted in Dallas Cowboy colors) and claimed was for government use.

Does anyone else remember some guy known as "the Prince" who lived in Flour or Webb Tower (I forget which) and who was supposedly a member of the Saudi royal family, who just preferred to live the college life in LA? This was circa 1995, but the rumor was that he had already been going to USC for years when I got there, so for all I know he is still there, hanging out with the college girls.
Aside from the "family connection" of this one wacky third-cousin of Prince Bandar, I don't see anything particularly "curious" about the Freeh Group working for both a Saudi and USC. Louis Freeh was also the FBI director, once upon a time. Is that also "curious"?
YAWN.
What a sugary sweeeeeet scoop indeed, Wolfman.
When I say SCOTT you say WOLF. SCOTT! WOLF!
AUUUUUUUUUUU WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Water covers 2/3 of the earth, WOLF covers the rest!!!!!!!!!!
Cafe 84 Pizza... I remember that guy. Man, I haven't thought about that in years.
And you are correct, that was the story about the alleged Prince. People claimed he kept changing his major so he wouldn't graduate. I don't know if it was true, though.
I know about another Prince who lived in Bel Air. He was originally from Philly and used to get in a lot of trouble while shooting hoops. His mother then sent him to Cali to stay with his aunt and large uncle.
Yes, I remember the prince. I don't know if those other rumors about him are true. Did he live in Fluor or Webb? I remember him throwing pizza parties at North College (?) dorms. He would get exasperated when people would grab an entire box of pizza and leave; he wanted folks to stick around and partay.
I also remember him picking up loads of dolled up girls in front of EVK with a stretch limo. It's good to be the king, but it doesn't sound too bad being the prince.
wolf, your are truly raising the bar with your intrepid reporting!! of course, only Kool-Aid swilling trOJies would choose to overlook the conection between Southern Cal's counsel and corrupt Saudi autocrats!!
this may be a "feel good" attempt by Southern Cal, but it doesn't leave me feeling good. rather, it makes me...sick to my stomach.
what can i say but, sweeeeeeeeeeeet scooop wolf!!!
AUUUUUUUUUUU-WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Ghost Bucket covers 2/3 of the earth and Wolf covers the rest.
Keep those scoops coming.
The prince was still there in 96-97...
Ghost Bucket covers 2/3 of Scott Wolf, a soccer jersey covers the rest.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers "the Prince". Maybe he lived in the dorm complex rather than Webb or Fluor; I don't really remember. I think I do remember hearing stories about him partying with girls in limos.
I was at USC from fall '94 to may '98, and there were a lot of oddballs on the scene. The Prince, various former child actors, and some girl who was an arts major but who also did gang-bang porn videos.
Compared with the college towns of the Midwest, where I spent my teenage years, USC could be a very peculiar place to go to college.
