Key Phrase
There's a rule that when writing a letter or paper, the most important sentence often ends up at the bottom and probably belongs up higher.
With that in mind, here's a revealing final sentence from Pat Haden's letter this morning.
``I will fess up to my mistakes, explain my decisions . . .''
That sounds like the antithesis to Mike Garrett.

You can say what you want about Mike Garrett, but one must include the fact that he had our athletic program in a winning mode. We have won many National Titles in recent years. One must also say that he had a big mouth, and had very little class near the end of his tenure. It's great to have Pat aboard . He's a man who appreciates the Trojan Family and tradition.
As badly as it ended for Mike Garrett, USC still owes him a huge debt of gratitude. Maybe he lucked into Pete Carroll, but he did in fact hire him, ending 20 years of football misery. And Garrett was, of course, SC's very first Heisman winner, which started a great run for us. And to think that he grew up wanting to go to fucla. Fortunately for him and us, God didn't allow him to bruin his life. Fight on, Mike!
