Because they are NoCals, aka hippies. To a NoCal, summers are for not showering, going to festivals, playing firsbee, eating beansprouts all day long, wearing flowers in thier hair, having dirty underwear, and of course, being pumped/jacked/psyched.
I moved to the Bay Area 12 years ago for a career change. True, people are different up here but we are not all hippies. Just like not every Angelino is a Hollywood snob.

Having lived in Norcal most of my life, you see all types. Daughter goes to SC so we're in SoCal quite a bit.Each has its pluses and minuses. However, I happen to work within spitting distance from Redwood High. It is in southern Marin county, and they are a little bit more, shall we say, laid back. Live in the east bay myself and have to put up with a population lousy with Cal grads.
