Lane Kiffin said it is too soon to tell if he will redshirt defensive tackle George Uko. But he will face a dilemma with many freshmen this year and will wait as long as possible. He admitted tonight his choice is to save players for later when the scholarship reductions hit hard or playing guys now because the numbers are already low.

After nobody would beleive me yesterday, I tried to google Tank Padilla, USC's albino running back in 1994, and I couldnt find anything. I also couldn't find anything about USC QB Dustin Frode. But I saw these guys loose to UCLA in person at the Rose Bowl!!
I remember that day when Mother took me to the Rose Bowl -- it was a stadium next to a big high school in Van Nuys, over by Lake Balboa. But when I google "Rose Bowl," it says its in Pasadena!
What is going here? And USC did wear green uniforms back then, right? Somebody explain this to me!

Well, since SC only has three other scholarship DTs available (Fangupo, Harris, Casey), I'd say it's a good bet Uko will get some playing time as a true FR. Simmons was just moved to DE (where SC now has six scholarship players available--not counting Perry), and Tupou is out for the season. That leaves the WO Tavarez as the only other DT.
Maybe USC should finally offer Todd Barr a schollie and get him into the family....
Weren't all the freshmen told they would be red-shirted and that the bowl ban would only affect them for one year? Were they misled?
