wow.
Fight On Harold! I will never forget Baby Jordan running circles around a McDonald's all-American from Cal who was my next door neighbor. Dude got a Mustang the day he signed with Cal. Go figure.
I believe that USC swept UCLA that year in hoops. I still remember the buzzer-beater that ended Miner's college career. I think it was the first 3-pointer that James Forrest shot all year. Heck, they still show it when the NCAA tournament rolls around...and it is still painful to watch.
@BoscoH: Jelani Gardner?
@tenn_SC: Eric McDonough.
You said it, uscmike, I was depressed for a week, and still will never forget the terrible moment. SC could have been a Final-4 team that year
Harold Miner might be my favorite SC athlete, and that is saying a lot. In one particular SC-ucla game he kept making 3s as ucla was making 2s, and the Trojans continued to slowly pull away, ending in a victory. At Pauley Pavilion he kept making free throws at the end to thwart a ucla drive, and then Don McLean, the mouth that won't stop, chose not to go for a tying 2, instead stepping back of the 3-point line for the victory.
It was no good!
I meant Miner after a game and was surprised how short he was, barely being taller than I at 6'2".
But if he was 280 and lost 25 pounds, that still leaves 255 pounds on a body made for 200. Probably would not recognize the dude on the street.
But if he attends an SC game I will be there, and I will be cheering louder than anybody else.
Any guy that beats Fucla at Poooly Pervillion is more than welcome back at USC.
That was my first year attending USC basketball games. Great times. And from what I understand, Harold Miner was one of the nicest people anyone could ever meet.
Good to hear he's been able to manage his money well and didn't go the way of Scottie Pippen and so many others.
I do hope to see him at 'SC games. Maybe I can get my Miner Miami jersey signed.
What ever happened to Sam Clancey? The ultimate "tweener".
Harold Minor was an exciting player to watch, I liked him once he left USC...other great trojan players I remember, is Paul Westphal, Gus Williams and Cliff Robinson.
the lochness monster lives. i recall USCHoops.com trying to track him down many years ago. i believe i read the cop story from that site. it would be cool to see him again.
