Scott, one word answer, yes or no--do you agree with the following: CJ Gable has basically no chance at all to make money in the NFL as a running back so he should therefore make a drastic decision to start playing safety in practice with the hope of bolstering the position and the team with the outside chance of blossoming into an NFL caliber player.

SC's defense was terrible last night. What does Lane do from here - allow them to tackle in practice and risk injury or go status quo and hope it gets better just though game experience?

Rate the play calling by Lane last night and the special teams on extra points.

Assuming the offensive line stays healthy, with Marc Tyler running the ball effectively, and the offense looking sharp the way they did @ Hawaii, is there really any need to worry about defense if the offense is averaging 50 a game?

Ps. Any comment on Kiffin's impressive play-calling? Compared to Bates, Lane really knows how to get the offense in rhythm.

lbc trojan, STFU do you think every team is going to be horrible on special teams and defensively as Hawaii was last night? Do think the USC OLine is going to protect Barkley the whole year as they did against a JC DLine as the one they faced last night? LMAO I don't think so buddy.

Is our team speed in the secondary:

a). slow in comparison to Hawaii's skill players
b). slow due to fatigue (lack of depth and trying to play against a spread offense for whole game)
c). more of an issue of poor positioning rather than team speed
d). something else
e). combination of A, B, C, D

In my view, tackling problems can be fixed but more worrisome was wide open receivers/backs absolutely shredding our defense

What did Monte say about the Tampa 2 after the game? Why leave the entire middle open and have Kenard play 50 yards off the line trying to cover quicker receivers?

SW - did Chris Galippo look as slow in person as he did on television? He looked like he was laboring out there. Also, I thought Robey would look better. He got great reviews in camp. Who was he covering in practice? Greg Salas took him to school last night. What was your impression of Robey?

robey had a rough outing to say the least. logically, he was covering better receivers in practice than UH's receivers - and their best WR was out. how do we reconcile his awful performance? he was out of position on nearly every play.

I think the part that you're missing, "troganfan," is that they comment SO MUCH... EVERYDAY... that me responding 1% of the time doesn't bring me close to their level.
Again, clearly we can see USC is doing something right if UCLA fans are crying on this blog endlessly.

Maybe this game should have never been scheduled. What did it accomplish other than a far away, expensive scrimmage game in a non-football type setting? There are no other foes quite like Hawaii on SC's schedule. If this was to show the DB's & LBs they have a lot of work to do, its a pretty extravagant way to show it...

While it's nice that the offense can score against a bad team, it's a disaster (continuing from last year) that the current roster isn't able to stop a mediocre offense from a lesser conference. What's happening to the vaunted SC defense? Was it first game jitters coupled with no-tackling practices? Or is a problem that will only be fixed with several years of recruiting?

and what is that giant sucking sound in Seattle?

Is the Monte Kiffin/Pete Carroll Cover 2 style defense too predictable to succeed in college football today with all of the newer unorthodox formations (Oregon State/Oregon/Hawaii)? I can't tell whether the defensive lapses are primarily related to the scheme being behind the times, or if it is just a complete lack of athleticism on defense.

Scott, If Joe McKnight had stayed this year and not been in any hot water over whatever, would this coaching staff have him behind Tyler, Baxter, Bradford, and probably Gable (where he would belong)?

How in the hell did Matt Barkley and CO. struggle so much in practice against the USC's #1 D? Please rate in Euros:

1. They were playing touch football
2. USC's D matches up much better against USC's O
3. Fatigue wasn't a factor in practice
4. Hawaii's O is just that much better than USC's
5. No idea.

As I've said all along, they have ZERO depth on defense...and are just one injury away at the OLine to become even worse.

First game, porous "D" bad tackling. WIN. If you look at game at least we were making contact even if missed tackles. Need practice. Many good defensive plays against pass, but too many holes. Several days to practice before home opener. Given the dire hoped many had, an ok start.

I thought we had 25 scholarships to give out in 2/11 unless the NCAA denied our appeal before then. Do you know why we are planning on only giving 15 unless we have caved in on our proposal to cut the yearly reduction from 10 to 5? In short, what's going on? Thanx in advance for anything you can tell us.
PS I am aware we have 9 to give out in 1/11, if we can find them, but those are supposed to count against our 2010 limit.

Devon Kennard looked awful in pass coverage...he looked like a defensive end, not a linebacker. Can you explain the logic in having him out there in obvious passing situations? Ive never seen stiffer hips on a linebacker...just horrible.
