Conventional Wisdom Watch
There's been some talk this week that USC should simply let opponents score in certain situations because its defense is struggling and the offense is scoring points.
But here's a reality: The offense is probably overrated a bit at this point because some of the defenses (Washington State, Washington) are among the Pac-10's worst and even Stanford ranks only fifth.
Ok, Scotty. Whatever you say. Let's see what you come up with if USC plays well against Cal.
No. Never. I'm not sure if anyone has run the numbers. You have to think in terms of probabilities. It's like if the 2-point conversion is working 55% of the time (and doesn't degrade with more use), that's what you do because your expected points per conversion are greater than 1.
I would bet my signed photograph of The Bush Push (5 year anniversary today) with Scott and his soccer jersey in the background that teams that let other teams score to leave time to score and win lose more often than those that don't, even if you selected games for which the teams play little to no defense.

I sure hope this isn't a disguised, passive-voice way of leaking actual comments from the coaching staff.
The Donkey knows conventional wisdom also dictates the offense and defense will get better if the talent and coaching exists. The Donkey believes the offense has improved from game to game while the D has performed against conventional wisdom.
In other words: Scott your "reality" is baseless.
Since the Bruins are having a bye week tomorrow, I call a meeting of my brothers in the Secret Cadre to discuss strategy, coordinate our commentating, and select a date for the annual Secret Cadre holiday party.
I suggest we meet around 1 pm at Taylor's steakhouse in Koreatown -- we can be done and out of there before all the Trojan fans show up, drunk and angry after watching their team lose a close one to Cal.

These are just the ones that comment regularly. I never see this many USC fans commenting on Jon Gold's blog. Most of the time there are none at all. It's pretty pathetic. UCLA fans, you should really try to realize how bad it makes the school you choose to be a fan of look. Seriously.
Your comments might be in good fun to stir up the rivalry, but maybe you should consider waiting until there is ACTUALLY A RIVALRY. One-sided domination of USC over UCLA is nothing to be proud of. Come back when you win a few. Until then...

That's NFL-type coaching talk. If it is true, now I know the Kiffins are trying to run & coach college players like its an NFL team. Not Good! Look at Oregon, Nevada, Boise St, etc. they're running traditional type defenses right out of the game. Its getting to where you watch a traditional offense and it gets boring.

And how many Trojans care enough to write a comment?-- maybe 30, maybe less
So basically it is 12 UGLIES and 30 SC-boys exchanging jibes and insults, while the remaining 500 or so who read the ucla and SC blogs could care less to even respond, or to even bother reading the usual sophomoric writings.

The Pac has is back. Its the "wild, wild, west" and people can't handle it. The super offenses prevail and no one has a "D". We need to hang 40. Get ready for another shoot out this weekend. Tedford's Bears has always hung some points on us.

@Trojan Conquest, speaking for myself I did not attend UCLA, I'm just the biggest Bruin fan. However, I am a donor, season ticket holder for 13 years and I also have a son that is starting school there in January - Oh, and I have been honored as an honorary Bruin.
