Last night's game reminded me of a previous time in USC history, namely the Paul Hackett era, when USC would get caught up in games where neither defense could stop the other team and no lead was safe. Not a pretty period.

What a waste of 222 rushing yards and a couple of touchdowns by a single player let alone his team scoring over 30 points. And his team still loses? Congratulations Monte Kiffin.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Welcome back to the Hackett Era. So much for Monty's genius. Bruins will run for days against that swiss cheese Ole Defense.

BTW Wolfie, why do you ban people for speaking the truth? Don't you know you need the readership, especially now that Troy is Burning and every Trogan has fallen off the bandwagon.

How fulfilling it was to see all those Trogans walking arounf LA Live last night, crying.

Last night's game was no where near as bad as the Virginia game--that was Hackett ball at its best. Last night was reminiscent of last year's game against Washington. USC committed too many penalties. The "targeting" penalty on S Wright is perhaps the single worst personal foul penalty I have seen in a while. This team is young and they are playing over their head. USC will beat one of the big three (oregon, Stanford or Arizona) and will lose to one or two of the middle teams. They should beat ND...so 8-5, 9-4 even 10-3 is not out of the question. If Coach Kiffin can keep these guys together, he can coach.

The sky is not falling. This was never a NC team. All is not lost.

Fight on!

Just finished reading all the comments, and the only one I liked and agreed with was snarfy's positive read on SC football.

The usual ucla suspects had to try to rub it in; they could have shown some class, but instead they continue to prove how hard it is to like a bruin

SC was fortunate to be in that game; except for Wright's stripping of Locker, the game might have gotten out of hand. And a ton of Huskie dropped passes. So I feel lucky that SC had a chance to win it.

The SC offense showed life and was entertaining, and defensively, well, a solid Stanford team gave up 52 to some quackers. Even great SC teams have had trouble with good option quarterbacks, but then so do most schools.

As for the fortunes of teams, Florida is not great, not even very good anymore. Alabama is on top, but they had a long "layoff" that lasted for years and years. Fortunes and busts run in cycles. And now this Oregon team, my, my, are they going to revolutionize football as we know it.

Anyway, I have already shaken off the sadness from last night, and am preparing to make my way to Palo Alto. In college football every game is a "national championship" type game. I mean, don't you believe the Stanford fans will be screaming into the night to beat SC again!?

I know I will be screaming up there. And so, the beat goes on.

Very myopic, Scott. It could also remind you of the Fresno State game, the Texas game, and several other games of the Pete Carroll era. I guess that's what sports writers do: pick and choose information out of all context to grind an ax, or to generally stir the pot.

What does the other teams defense have to do with the Paul Hackett era?
Bottom line, this defense sucks. The linebackers are terrible.

The Paul Hackett led offense scores 3 points in that game and punts from the opponents 30 yard line.
This is the 2005 defense. However, it is not the 2005 offense. Barkley is not clutch right now. We had a few chances to put them away, but we didn't.

The upside is that we were close and should have won. The downside is that we were close and our defense sucks.
