History Lesson
This was USC's third loss to Stanford on the last play of the game in regulation. In 1969, Stanford kicked a field goal. In 2000, Chris Lewis's 20-yard touchdown pass to Jamien McCullum for a Stanford 32-30 win. I was at that game and remember that an administrator told me that sealed Paul Hackett's fate.
And of course, tonight's last-second field goal by Stanford kicker Nate Whitaker, who is 10 for 10 this season on field goals.

Scott,
You're such negative moron. Why do you keep referencing Hackett. His team's looked like Neuheisel's. We may be young and on probation, but we are no Paul Hackett team.
lol Paul Hackett!
ughhhhhh we so better not revert to those dark live under a rock days! Seriously!
That's the most research I have ever seen from one of Wolf's posting. Someone else must have passed this along to him.
No, actually, Scott, Stanford lost to SC on a last second field goal in 1969.
Do they employ have fact checkers at your paper?
If history is any guide, then this game should seal Monte Kiffin's fate.
Thanks Whitney. That was an excellent post. You are really growing as a journalist, but Scott should really give you credit when you put the work in.
