Lane Kiffin was asked tonight if the kicking competition was open again after Joe Houston missed a 40-yard field goal and is 2 for 6 this season.
``Definitely,'' Kiffin said.

Too bad SC doesn't have a better kicker. I think Bradford could have gained another 4 yards on two more carries...

It's not Houston's fault--40 yards is out of his range. Kiffin knows that. They needed to go for it on 4th down. Even if Houston would've made it, it would've been a similar situation as USC vs. Texas where Vince Young was going to score a TD anyway. It was painful to see Sarkisian outcoach Kiffin even though I think we all know Sarkisian is a better and smarter coach.

oh man i can see it now...Southern Cal will lose a game because of a botched kick, and then all the low-life cheap-shot artists will crawl out from under their rocks and dredge up this story and say "nice job ignoring the kicking game...now it cost us a game!!!"
...no kicking, really? not even a little?

"40 is out of his range".......WTF. He is a college kicker at USC.

But his long is 34. He's a walk-on. The kicking game has not been an emphasis for a while.

The loss is not on Houston, Barkley or any other individual; it's on Lane Kiffin.
Coach ought to man up and take the blame. Good leaders own the results.
