Should Pete Carroll (and by extension recruiting coordinator Brennan Carroll) bear some responsibility to the roster deficiencies that Lane Kiffin is dealing with right now?

It's not a secret it's Pete's recruits, and it's Pete's sanctions. If Brennan was responsible, then he should be responsible, however that has nothing with how they are playing now. It all belongs to Lane now, and he must deal with whatever was left him the best he can. He's got an all-star coaching staff, so the onus is on him.

You really wonder how the SC team would be playing now if PC were still here. Probably he would have talked most of those 2nd stringers who left the program to stay since he recruited them, and that would make it possible for the practices to remain physical. I'd say PC would have beaten Sark this time and still be undefeated. As far as Stanford, Oregon & Arizona games, I think he would have lost at least one (Oregon)of those games. No doubt his games would be more "outscore the other team" type games. I also think he would have hidden the lack of skill matter better than Kiffin is doing because he would have had the team all spirited up and playing physical. You really can't fault Monte Kiffin (although I want to) for not meshing with the defense yet. These are not his recruits and he is trying to mold them into his system whether they are able or not.

Of course. This shouldn't even be questioned. Just count how many OLs the Carrolls brought in over the last two years. SC lost about 1/2 a dozen transfers this off-season, and only a about 1/2 of them were directly related to the NCAA penalty. Carroll left the cupboard bare and then left the program. The sanctions and the condition in which he left the program have tarnished his reputation. If not for those two things he would have been remembered as SC greatest coach.

Without a doubt. I will always love PC, but we finished 5th in conference last season BEFORE the SANCTIONS. Honestly, 5th or better this season AFTER sanctions will be a remarkable job from Kiff. And, there is no way that Pete's offense would be playing this well. Now, his defense might be a little better just due to the lack of a forced transition.

All the critics need to get off Lane's jock. He inherited quite a hot potato.

Wolf's question is the most obvious/dumb question today. Of course PC is responsible for not recruiting elite replacement LB's and an elite D line and corner backs. Too much focus on skill position the past two years. Oh well, next year we will have the best receiving core in CFB and will be hanging 40 on fools. If we can keep the D to 35 or less we might be ok..

Putting his IDIOT son in charge of recruiting is like putting Obama in charge of this country, not a good idea, just look at the results.

Stop the excuses. Lane Kiffin was suppose to be this wonder coach. Where is it ? Where is the defense ? where is this great O ? where is the 2pt plays now ?

USC has more players than anyone in the country. They are poorly coached. Pull the plug now Haden you are not out a thing.

Lane Kiffin is going down just like Charlie Weis. One of the biggest jokes in football history.

First of all "I dig go go girls" Brennan Carroll was the co-ordinator in name only which is just a title. Obviously you have a short memory about politics it was the real idiot George Bush (not Reggie) who ran the country into the ground. Second, losing Tupou for the season at DT really hurt plus Malik Jackson transferring disrupted the rotation on the outside. A healthy McAllister at safety would have been very beneficial. Kennard was recruited as a DE, and losing Griffin a year early all contributed to the lack of pressure and fatigue in the 4th Qtr. The offensive line has played well this year, and Kiffin could not reel in Henderson at the end. Jury still out on offensive prowess with a weak schedule so far ,and scoring only 17 pts. vs. Virginia at home not a real indication of strength. The fumbles not created on defense is whose fault?
