I get asked this question a lot, so I am going to mention it again. USC can sign as many as nine players at the mid-year break.

SC was allowed to sign 25 against the '10-'11 AY, right?
Hall, Prater & Baxter enrolled in 1/10, so their scholarships counted against the '09-'10 AY, right?
Kiffin awarded 3 scholarships to WOs this year(Markowitz, Cumming & Houston), right? And he offered a scholarship to Collier who transferred from Miami, right? And those 4 scholarships count against the '10-'11 AY, right?
SC signed 14 other FR who enrolled in 8/10 (DiPoalo, Scroggins, Morgan, Grimble, Telfer, Woods, Ambles, Uko, Thomas, Pullard, Bailey, Wright, Robey & Brown), right? And those scholarships count against the '10-'11 AY, right?
So, SC has awarded 18 scholarships against the '10-'11 AY, right? And 8 from 25 is 7, right? So how come SC can offer 9 scholarships to early enrollees?

USC can give out 25 total scholarships with a max of 15 counting towards the 2011 class.
That means 10 can be given out to early enrolees, which include transfers.
Assuming everybody maintains their verbal commitments, USC currently has 6 that would count as EE's: Collier (junior redshirt transfer from Miami), Kessler, Turene, Heidari, McBride, and Wittek. They are also counting on Soma Vainuku becoming academically qualified and he would also be an early enrollee. So, that would be 7. Giving USC 3 more slots for players eligible to enroll for the spring semester.
USC has commitments from 7 other players and can take another 8 in the class of 2011, including juco transfers.
So, USC can take another 11 players total if everything goes according to plan, 3 for the spring semester and 8 that count as 2011 incoming frosh.

I think NJT is right. 7 EEs, and since we have accepted partial sanctions and the Appeal is almost certain not to be determined by Feb 1, 20 '11 AY scholies. So, 27 new players, not to exceed an 80 scholie roster limit in AY '11. We graduate 16 from our current 71 (?)and will certainly lose a few to injury, academics, or transfer, so, this may work out perfectly. 80 players next year will really breathe extra life into our surging team.
