Lots of coaching questions today.

Will Bellotti take the Colorado job?

A: I know he is dying to return to coaching and if he's offered, I think he'll jump at it. I've heard him mentioned for Minnesota too.

Scott, it took the defensive coaching staff a half season to realize Gallipo's smarts was more effective than Kennard's speed in the middle. But the defensive backfield is still a mess. Why haven't the db & safety position coaches come forward and admit they have done a very poor job of preparing the players? Heck, Mack Brown doesn't have a problem blaming his coaches, why can't Lane?

A: That would mean blaming your father. And I'm pretty sure Lane Kiffin thinks his dad is a better coach than he is. I agree with the first part of your question regarding Galippo. But that demonstrated how important the coaching staff thought Kennard's athleticism would be to an improved defense. It's not really worked (through no fault of Kennard who is out of position).

Maybe Monty should send an emergency dispatch to Caesar asking for the elephant game plan and then implement Kennard's defensive end speed and instincts into Matthews Jr.'s old position.

Not only does Devon Kennard have better "speed" than Gallipo, he also has "smarts." He was Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention (Gallipo was not). Gallipo played MLB in high school. Kennard has never played MLB until this year. Think before speak.

Football "smarts" and book "smarts" aren't the same thing. Kennard is constantly looking out of position. I'm suprised that he even knows when the ball is snapped since he's looking at the sidelines hoping they'll tell him what to do.
That brings up another point. The SC defense needs to be simplified against the spread. Look at Cal's results against Oregon with their vanilla man coverage vs SC's complex defenses.

Maybe Monty should see that Navy's 5'7" DBs shut down those huge ND receivers because the DL and LB's were blitzing the shitsky out of them. If the Trojan DB's get torched by ND and we lose, Monty should head back to NFL.
