Lane Kiffin on why he didn't have Shareece Wright defend Juron Criner more last night.
``Shareece gave up two touchdowns himself,'' Kiffin said. ``Shareece would be the first to say he's not playing great.''

Thank you. I don't get this idea that Wright is any good.

Thank you is right. This whole "they don't want to throw it to the 'wright' side" thing has always been funny to me. Everytime they do, it's a completion!
Goes to show you Wolf's knowledge of football... Him tweeting in the middle of the game why Wright was not guarding Criner. Lol... He couldn't even guard their 3rd best receiver yesterday. While he's done some good things, pass coverage has not been one of them.
Wolfie, just some friendly advice. Instead of giving us useless first down updates, try watching the game.

Keepin' it real. You are a breath of fresh air, in the form of the best young coach in America, Victory Lane.
Wright used to be good. But then he used to have a coach or two that would help him along. He as well as the other DBs are "playing up to the level of their position coaches"!

@Trojan Conquest - please explain. Didn't you have Torin's back last week? Which is it? Does the coach get to criticize or not? I'm just an armchair QB but Wright looks like the better player to me. Torin got killed on the slant route all night last night.

Those were perfect passes though. All he could have done was interfere and get flagged. Defensive back is a cruel, cruel position.

Norcal -- Our whole middle is getting killed regularly. Torin definitely got burned last week, but remember, he is a freshman. Shareece got burned bad this week and last. Just an observation.

I never said anything positive about Torin. And I love that Kiffin calls these guys out. The point of my comment is that both Wright and Harris have played poorly. Wright was mentioned before the season as an early draft pick. I don't see it.

@Trojan Conquest - my mistake. Sorry, it wasn't your comment last week. I should have checked the archive before.

I'm not pointing out anything the whole college football world doesn't know, but our secondary is just plain bad. It's not just one player; it's basically everyone as a unit. TJ McDonald has been relatively impressive the last few weeks, but even he did not seem to have a great game at Arizona.
I don't know why opposing offensive coordinators don't just call pass plays every time. Slant, slant, slant...they'd score every possession.

Torin Harris would be terrible in any defense (Cover 0, Cover 1, Cover 2, etc.), but Shareece is actually pretty good when he comes up and plays bump at the line of scrimmage. He gets into trouble when the Kiffin's play that stupid, ridiculous zone defense. You're USC. You supposedly have the best athletes in the conference and maybe even the entire country. Let your players go out and prove it.
Besides, Cover 2 is worthless in college football. It only works against Pro-style offenses, which is why it worked so well against Virgina, Minnesota (for the most part), and Cal and pretty much no one else. Even Wazzu, with virtually zero talent on offense, was fairly successful against this defense using a version of the spread. The only Pro-style team that had success against this defense this season was UDub, and that was more a factor of their QB making plays than anything else. Let's face it, the spread is taking over - or HAS taken over - and it's time to scrap this ridiculous Cover 2 and start playing press man-to-man on almost every down. Make these so-called "elite" kids earn their way into the defensive backfield. I have a feeling it would get the corners excited and also settle the LB corps down.
Thank you. I don't get this idea that Wright is any good.
