Sea Change
One thing that is sometimes worth pointing out is the effect from USC dropping physical education as a major more than 20 years ago. From the 1940's-1970's, many high school and college coaches in Southern California attended USC. That era is over.
More importantly to those of you who follow football, it means a junior-college athlete can only transfer four units of P.E. classes to USC. That eliminates a lot of athletes, who can instead go to Arizona State, Arizona, etc. And it is one reason USC is so difficult a place to get JC football players.

Maybe we should just have a major called "Football Theory & Practice" which would accept all credits of all kinds from all institutions. I think the NCAA and fans across America would find our honesty refreshing.
Houston Nutt could be the department chair, once his run at Ole Miss is over.
SC should offer phys ed as a major, with classes like football theory & practice. Athletics is an important part of education. A healthy body contributes to a healthy mind. There is a need for good coaches & why shouldn't SC be a leader in phys ed education? & if somebody is truly talented in a sport and very likely to make millions for playing it he should be encouraged to do so. People criticize Sanchez for leaving school early. Does anybody criticize Bill Gates for doing so?
Scott, this is your best post of the year. I had an exercise physiology and a history of sports class in the late 80s. And, I always wondered why that building south of Cromwell had so much PE-themed stuff. Very interesting. Yeah, shouldn't the nation's premier athletic institution offer a PE degree? Or, is it not in line with the West Coast Ivy initiative?
Does SC still offer Ballroom Dance? Barkley could use his footwork improvement.
People hurried jumping on the idea of bringing Phys Ed as a major back to USC is yet another reason why folks will never take USC seriously as an academic institution. Come on, guys!
